I've never previously came across using highway:path for this usage. I've seen usage of highway:cycleway as a standard in other places. I read the wiki page for both tags and it seems like that both tags are appropriate. I've changed the tags because ID editor names highway:cycleway as "Cycleway and footway" and highway:path as "Path". This made highway:cycleway seem like better alternative.
