Stile tag removd

Done. Thanks for pointing this out. Yeah, stile replaced with a shiny new kissing gate.

There is no "track" from Side Gates Road heading up towards Side Pike. There is the signposted footpath slightly to the west, but I saw nothing today where the track is shown, as confirmed by satellite imagery. It's possible the odd person has walked that route, so at a push "Track" could be amended to "Footpath".

It is.

That's fine. I think I might have done it like that just so that I could show the separate gate for walkers.

It's a bit complicated. There's a level difference of a couple of feet between the two fields, the one to the west being higher. A few stones have been removed from the wall so that the top of it is flush with the higher field. The gap is wider than a squeezer stile would be. I would have taken a photo, but my phone had died.

It is as I mapped it, except that it's a stile in the corner of the field, not a gate. However, there's a gap in the wall part way along it, currently blocked off with wire mesh. It's quite possible that the path was temporarily diverted through there when you were there.

I understand what you're saying about the stile now! You're referring to the path along the top of the field. I was under the impression it ran along the south side of the wall all the way to the gate in the corner of the field, which is what I walked and which is what OS maps show. However, you've got it crossing the wall part way along. You may well be correct, and OS wrong. I'll go and take a look sometime soon.

It's all very complicated! A lot of the footpaths that I've added have been of the informal variety. I suspect that sum of them have sprung up since Covid turned up, but others have clearly been around for much longer.

"informal=yes for desire lines" means nothing to me! Can you enlighten me?

97649757

Thanks for this Jerry. I always include access info, specifying "yes" for foot and "no" for the rest when that's the case. I normally also say what the surface is.

I started off using Footpath for for example public footpaths across open countryside or fields, and Path for something more formal, like Coppice Wood Avenue. I also tried to be consistent with what other people had done, although that proved to be impossible. Now I just use Footpath for everything. At least I'm being consistent with myself.

I'm still struggling! West of Hollins Hill, I added a stile next to the cattle grid, then there's a stile between the two trees, and finally a stile through the wall where the path joins the bridleway.

If I have deleted something I shouldn't have, by all means add it back on.

"Unpaved" was just an error. I've corrected it. As for your other comment, I'm not sure. I have to confess that I don't know what the difference between "Path" and "Footpath" is.

Where exactly is the stile? I don't recall deleting one!
