almost 6 years ago | Hi Iriman, thank you for commenting. I mapped the u-turns based on Maxar Premium Imagery which is probably outdated in this case. The OSM wiki does say that jersey barriers should be added to a node along the highway, so I propose we leave the ways but add barrier tags to the nodes: barrier=jersey_barrier
over 6 years ago | Ah, thanks. Mapillary and other street-level imagery is useful for lots of things, like finding signs and and other details. We mainly use them for that.
over 6 years ago | Thank you for uploading Mapillary images, that is very helpful. I’m going to split way/616752632 and make the southern end of it tertiary because it carries northbound traffic onto Rua Dom Manuel.
over 6 years ago | Thanks for looking into it. I added the connector because in imagery a car is visible crossing the intersection from Rua Nicolau Gomes Spencer southeast to Rua Dom Manuel I.
over 6 years ago | Hello. I changed the inaccessible parts of the road back to service
over 6 years ago | I have changed the section of road back to service considering your knowledge of the area. I changed the rest of the route to secondary to reflect the decreased importance of the entire coastal route between Benguela and Namibe. Thank you for mapping in Angola.
almost 7 years ago | Hi Steven, thank you for mapping in Angola. In satellite imagery it appears that EN100 is still drivable, even though new bridges were never completed. Highway=service designates roads that are only for private or commercial access: highway=service. Can I change this section of EN100 back to primary or another classification?
almost 7 years ago | I have changed the frontage roads and informal access roads to unclassified or residential. I left the parking lots and areas that seemed to be private as service. Feel free to make adjustments. Thanks for responding so quickly!
almost 7 years ago | Hi Diogenes, are the dirt roads parallel to Avenida Commandante Fidel Castro accessible to the public? If so, I think they are frontage roads and should be unclassified rather than service: osm.wiki/Frontage_road
almost 7 years ago | Hi, thanks for mapping. Primary classification should only be used for roads that link large towns per the OSM guidelines. Roads like estrada do cangulo should be unclassified: highway=*#Values
almost 7 years ago | Thanks Diogenes! I try to avoid gaps or abrupt shifts in classifications. Even if a road’s characteristics vary over the length of its route, it's function remains the same, so it should usually be a consistent classification throughout. You can read the material on this page to learn more, especially the High Classification Routes page: https://tinyurl.com/y68hmojy I have looked at the road you linked and I do not know the progress of the construction. I think tertiary is a good classification until construction is complete or imagery is updated. One thing that would help is if you could drive through the area and upload images of the current state of the roads to Mapillary.
almost 7 years ago | Hi Diogenes. Generally we only map internal turn lanes lanes like way/664978830 if they are physically channelized or divided. Since there’s no physical divider within this intersection except for the small circular island, I would map this as a simpler, “hash” shape. It would look more neat in OSM Carto that way and the overall function of the intersection remains the same. Please read osm.wiki/Highway_link
almost 7 years ago | Thanks for the information, I’ll be sure to check for GPS traces. This alignment looks good.
