Thanks for your contributions! While you added some new paths, many existing forestry double tracks were downgraded to “path.” These tracks are regularly used by 4WDs and ATVs, and although they can become temporarily impassable during the rainy season, as a rule, any trails 2 m wide or more is considered a track, regardless of its condition. I will revert your track > path changes. Thanks for your understanding. Julien

Hi NateeT, earlier this year I removed some path segments I had added based only on Strava or public GPS traces, without ground verification, after receiving reports about non-existent, abandoned, or sensitive sections. Please feel free to re-add any missing segments you have firsthand knowledge of — their trace should still be visible in the public traces layer in iD. If not, just PM me the location and I can look them up on Strava.

I’ve downgraded some paths I added based solely on public GPS traces, without proper surveys, after receiving complaints. While many lead to real trails, some are just shortcuts, and others may pass through sensitive areas. I’ll eventually delete these maybe:highway=path entries—but no worries, any potential trails remain visible in the public OSM GPS traces layer. If you have on-the-ground knowledge of any segments, feel free to map them yourself and include tags like width and sac_scale to better describe them. Hi! This is a experimental tag I started using for trails with high activity on the Strava Heatmap — usually popular segments. Combined with imagery or GPS traces, it can help confirm if a path actually exists.

Hi Johannes, welcome back — and thanks again for your previous contributions! Just a quick note regarding trail names: unofficial or locally-used names shouldn’t be added to the name tag in OSM. Instead, I’ve been moving them to loc_name or occasionally description, where appropriate. Using name for these is considered tagging for the renderer.
