Well it has taken longer than i expected but the initial work on Al Dhaid has been completed. I paid a second visit to Al Dhaid a few days back with my trusty dictaphone and hope to incorporating that work once i’ve completed a round of work on Qatar. Was also able to visit Fujairah on my trip to Al Dhaid, so i have recorded a first start of work for it.

Qatar and Emirates Work

Posted by jphilipz on 4 December 2013 in English.

Over the last 2 weeks, i have been incorporating some of the dictaphone work i did while i was visiting Qatar earlier on in the year and plan to bounce between qatar and the emirates every few weeks depending which to which dictaphone recording i’m listening to. This week i’ve be working on Al Dhaid city in Sharjah, more precisely the road to Al Dhaid until now, but plan to work on it until its i’ve completed all the dictaphone work for it.

Would be nice to meet some other OSMers in either country to coordinate efforts in completing more.

Dubai Neighbourhood Work

Posted by jphilipz on 11 November 2013 in English.

Well i drove through dubai’s al qusais 2 and 3 neighbourhoods and noted all the street numbers, bumps, humps, mosques, parks, schools, grocery stores, etc, and was able to complete their addition into OSM in the last few days. I had come across a number of district boards in the neighbourhoods, which include all the street numbers and have taken pictures of these and would appreciate anyones help in getting the street numbers into the map.

I’ve included the district board for al qusais 1 [ http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=15/25.2777/55.3749 ] at [ http://tinypic.com/r/14ya7br/5 ]. Please let me know if you are able to help, as i have quite a number of these district boards, and not enough time to work on all of them.

working on ajman

Posted by jphilipz on 28 September 2013 in English.

As I live in ajman, i’m spending most of my time working on getting ajman up to par as when i started it didnt even have street names. So i’ve added the major street names and their numbers and little by little get to the less important ones. I’m happy that JOSM is available, or else i wouldnt work on OSM as much as i had tried the online editor a year back and it was a hassle. Even got my 14-year old son to get involved. Would be nice to meet other OSMers in the area.
