I was unaware of this discussion. I've reverted the change by removing the name again. It indeed does not seem to be an official name, though it seems to be a name used commonly to refer to this square (e.g., in newspapers).

Nonetheless, if a colloquial name is commonly used, one may wonder why it is not mentioned on the map. People may refer to this square like this, and find it useful information. Though I'm not aware of a special tag to use to refer to colloquial names, and I'm not aware of how this is generally handled on OSM.
