I noticed that in this changeset, you created a "direction sign" with the following tags:

name=direction sign
place=hamlet

This actually indicated that their is a place (like a neighborhood, village, or town) at that location called "direction sign".

Based on the `name` tag you gave this node, I assume it's some type of wayfinding sign. I suggest we use the tag `information=guidepost`, here is the documentation on that tag:

information=guidepost

I have gone ahead and made this change already. You can see my changeset here:

Which "map compilers" are you referring to, @clnd?

Please review the Wiki page for the `building=*` tag, which makes clear:

> the value may be used to classify the (architectural) type of building. Note that it may be not the same as the building's current use

I did this from memory (I've visited the site a couple of time now), but I'm sure the geometry will need to be refined.

Unless this area has been renovated since I last surveyed (and please forgive me if it has), I don't think leisure=outdoor_seating is an appropriate tag for what is here. [0] I don't think this is a seating area in the spirit of that tag, which is usually used for outdoor seating areas outside of a restaurant or similar establishment. Here there are just a couple of benches on a gravel surface. I think it would be preferable to map the benches as amenity=bench nodes, in line with other benches on campus. I think the outdoor_seating tag would be more appropriate, for example, on the Sadler Terrace.

I used a fancy GPS unit borrowed from the William & Mary Center for Geospatial Analysis to complete this work.

This looks great, thanks for your contribution and welcome to the sidewalks project! You correctly tagged unmarked/marked/signaled crossings, and added many surface tags. I know how long that stuff can take :D
