Hi,

Welcome to OpenStreetMap! There's definitely no clinic or bookmakers within the boundary of Reykjavík Airport. Did you mean to place these nodes somewhere else?

Valleys aren't visible on the OSM map, but I think it's better to enter correct data than it is to try and get openstreetmap.org to render something (the "Don't tag for the renderer" guideline).

osm.wiki/Tagging_for_the_renderer

OSM data's used widely for academic research, other maps, geo search, and so we shouldn't prioritise the OSM map. It does shows up correctly as a valley in Nominatim, OSM's geocoder: osm.org/search?query=fagridalur

And lots of others, which I reverted en masse: changeset/100901895

Hi and welcome to OpenStreetMap!

I've reverted your changesets that removed place=country and place=city from various countries and cities around the world, since the original tags contain useful information.

If you need any help with further edits, please don't hestiate to ask.

Hi ASR11,

Thanks for taking an interest in golf courses in Iceland. If I could make one suggestion: use the "Maxar Standard Imagery (Beta)" satellite imagery when editing. Maxar's imagery is from this year, Bing's is much older. Maxar is also much better aligned than Bing — Bing can be offset quite a bit.

Thanks again for your edits.

Hi Myriam,

Thanks for your changes to OpenStreetMap. I've tidied them up a little bit and marked the roads as access=destination — that way your guests can still get to your farm. If you think that's wrong then please do leave a comment and we can try to correct it.

I think it would be possible to add your full hike but tag it correctly using the trail_visibility and sac_scale keys.

trail_visibility=*
sac_scale=*

That way routing engines would be able to decide whether to use those trails or not (for example, to get *down* from the mountain), it would be possible for map renderers to display the types of paths differently, and other hikers could use the paths if they're up for the challenge. What do you think?

Hi kriksis,

There are two or three paths in this changeset that aren't connected to any others, and so they can't really be used by anyone. Can we make them more useful by connecting them to something?

No problem, I added it back in changeset/89967722.

Hi andershl,

Is this hiking route definitely no longer passable? There are a few OSM GPS traces that show a route through from Dettifoss to the hiking path a few hundred metres north. Are they out of date?

Hi,

I think you're right that this and the other path you mention are just sort of continuations of Lynghagi and Starhagi. I've reinstated the one-way tag in changeset/89030841.

It does feel fussy to tag them as one-way though — it's not something anyone's really going to pay attention to. But to try and stop anyone getting stuck I've added the bicycle=yes tag to nearby paths to make sure routers can get cyclists onto the cyclepath against the one-way flow.

Hi kallik,

Could you provide a source for the name of this path? I can't find a reference to Karlsleið on Google, Reykjavíkurborg's website, or Borgarvefsjá.

Thanks,
Matt.

Hi Siriwekker,

I didn't get a response so I deleted the panels in changeset/82619812. But if you think I'm wrong — it happens more than I would like ;) — then please do add them back.

Hi Siriwekker,

Welcome to OpenStreetMap! I just wanted to check: are you certain there are solar panels at this location? It's unusual to see solar panels in Iceland because of the abundant geothermal power, and from the Bing satellite images it looks to me like wrapped hay bales in a farmyard.

Hi,

I think it would be better if you went through the proposal process before creating a new key. From osm.wiki/Proposal_process:

> Generally, new keys should always be discussed before being added to Map features

This new key is also very specific. From the same page, "we want to avoid an uncontrolled explosion of features and keys". Finally, the new key is spelled incorrectly (it should be icelandic_camping_card, not islandic_camping_card).

If you don't mind I'll revert this changeset. But feel free to propose the key on the talk-is mailing list: https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-is.

Hi X99, thanks for taking an interest in Iceland on OSM! We don't really use the highway=motorway tag in Iceland, though, so I reverted this change in 74122432. You can read about how roads are mapped in different countries on OSM on the wiki (osm.wiki/Highway:International_equivalence) and if you'd like to discuss it, there's a mailing list for Iceland (https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-is).

Well spotted! As is common in football though, the name has changed again since that Já 360 photo was taken. I've added the new new name in changeset/74074829.

Hi mappatman, do you know if these paths are closed permanently or temporarily?

72153118 over 6 years ago

Hi,

I was wondering, is this is a marked path or just a hike you took over open ground? I can't see anything on satellite images or ground-level photos.
