In that case, great! Thanks for making the change.

Hi Gestur,

This change doesn't match up with any of the satellite imagery available on OpenStreetMap, not with the Já 360 photos from September 2017. Has this coastline changed since then?

Hi,

Thanks for the links. After reading them I think we can both be correct without contradicting one another. I think that, to many, Lagarfljót *is* a single entity — it is Lagarfljótsormurinn rather than Lagarormurinn, after all — and naming part it separately could be contentious. But also, in contexts where clarity is required, it might be necessary to separate it into a lake and a river, and name each separately. If you were to use OpenStreetMap data for a general purpose atlas, for example, you might want to label both the lake and river as Lagarfljót. On the other hand, a geological map might want to label to lake and river separately.

I can't think of a good way to handle this dual case on OpenStreetMap, though. I did think of adding loc_name=Lagarfljót to the lake, but I don't really think this tag is supported. In lieu of a more nuanced method of tagging, I'll leave the tags as they are.

Thanks for your reply,
Matt.

Hi,

I think this is a case where you might be technically correct but that doesn't reflect standard usage. I think most locals consider Lagarfljót as a (very big) river, not a river that flows into a lake named Lögurinn. The Icelandic Wikipedia page for Lagarfljót even includes a section on the name, saying that the name Lögurinn could well come from outsiders, not from people local to the river/lake.

https://is.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagarflj%C3%B3t#Lagarflj.C3.B3t_e.C3.B0a_L.C3.B6gurinn.3F

Landmælingar Íslands, as close as we can get to a definitive source, calls the river/lake Lagarfljót. I can't find a feature named Lögurinn in its public datasets.

In light of this, I'd like to rename the lake to Lagarfljót, but keep Lögurinn as an alt_name. Do you have any strong feelings on the issue?

Thanks,
Matt.

Hi,

Yes, access=customers sounds like a good idea to me.

Hi,

I think this is a private road. It's the entrance to a private company's industrial site, and you can see it's not really a road you would want to use:

https://ja.is/kort/?x=362118&y=405710&z=11&ja360=1&jh=75.8

So I reverted this in changeset/69228275.

Hi birdlawyer,

I added the duplicate tags back to the route=ferry sub-relation because I noticed it causes problems for routing engines (notably OSRM).

I know I shouldn't really add tags just to help third-party software, but it seems that because ferry route relations are uncommon (1 ,500 route=ferry relations to 20,000 route=ferry ways) they don't handle them well.

I reverted your changes in changeset/68747501. The changes to the supermarkets look valid but the moved/deleted paths and street lamp nodes are invalid.

I don't have any experience with ferry routes via relations but if that would allow driving and walking routing to use different entrances/exits to the ferry, that would be really nice. As long as routing engines can still use the ferry route, I'm happy :)

You're right, sorry, I've changed the Dalvík–Hrísey ferry routes back. Now they both connect directly to the terminal again.

It was the ferry route that finishes in Seyðisfjörður that had the branch in the water (see https://overpass-api.de/achavi/?changeset=68566736), because there are two ferry terminal nodes there. I've left that so it only connects to one and there's no branch in the water.

Hi birdlawyer,

I reverted these changes in changeset/68566736, but only because you changed the Dalvík–Hræisey ferry route so it branches in the water. I think that this will cause trouble for routing engines.

From the OSM wiki: "The ferry route must not branch in the water, so it must always be drawn to the ferry dock. This is important for routing to work correctly".

But if you think I've made I've made a mistake in reverting this, please let me know!

I added the building in changeset/68029684 but after reading the thread at https://lists.openstreetmap.org/pipermail/tagging/2016-March/thread.html#28904 I decided not to include the Airbnb details.

Hi,

From the Já 360 street images from 2017 it looks like this is now a short residential street:

https://ja.is/kort/?type=map&x=350702&y=427316&z=11&ja360=1&jh=300.0

I just updated this to highway=residential. But if you've seen the footpath and know this to be false, please correct my correction :)

I reverted your changes in changeset/67836737. This looks to me like a minor case of vandalism.

Hi,

I can't verify the information about The Old Fisherman's Cabin in Iceland. Could you add a URL for the cabin's website or the Airbnb listing?

On top of that, could you provide a source for the information? Copying the data from Airbnb's website, for example, would break OSM's rules. See the thread below for information:

Since these don't look like valid viewpoints I removed these nodes in changeset/67616159. If you need any help recreating them correctly please leave a comment here.

It's clear from satellite imagery that this car park is not circular. I reverted this vandalism in changeset/67398221.

This is the second example of vandalism from this account in the last week.

Error in changeset comment: the street name is Kópavogsbrún, not Kópavogsbraut.

I checked the changeset. The edit to Iceland was one river added (way/671070675) and one river modified slightly (way/509693183). The edits match satellite imagery so I believe it's a legitimate change.

I believe this was deliberate vandalism. I reverted this in changeset/67308190.
