I was wondering if you could point me to any policy or guidance that states every service road should have a service=* tag applied. My understanding has been that these tags are meant to be used only when they clearly match the definitions in the OSM wiki, rather than being required for all highway=service roads. Reviewing the service=driveway wiki, the “Usage” section doesn’t appear to include fuel station roads within the described criteria (service=driveway). Likewise, the examples on the highway=service wiki suggest that a service road accessing a fuel station doesn’t require any additional designation beyond highway=service (highway=service).

I also haven’t noticed service=driveway or service=drive-through being commonly used for fuel station service roads in Romania or elsewhere in OSM, which is why I wanted to double-check my understanding. Is this approach based on a consensus from a public forum discussion or perhaps something from the ROU OSM Telegram? I may just be missing it, but I haven’t been able to find anything about this on the ROU wiki so far.

Hello, rarad74. I left the service road without the additional service=drive-through tag as according to OSM guidelines, this tag is intended “to indicate that a highway is for drive-through service where customers can visit a business without leaving their cars.” (service=drive-through). Since drive-through gas stations where customers remain in their vehicles are not common, I wasn’t convinced it applied in this case. That said, I’m happy to defer to your edits should you choose to apply the tag.
