Changeset When Comment

Hi there, please do not create brand new nodes for cities when there is already one present (regarding Mitchell and Chamberlain, South Dakota). I have moved the information to the already existing node. Please see osm.wiki/Keep_the_history for more information

Thank you for your comment! It believe it is to the north. I have corrected this in changeset/187158230

It only connects to the tiny hamlet of Pendleton. Looking at it now, though, I see it also forms a route between Warrenton and Hermanntown, so I'll go ahead and put it back to secondary.

Bridgewater was most likely tagged place=town due to its size and economic importance, not its official designation. This sort of "official designation" should only go on the relation for the city, not the place node. The boundary relation represents the local government's boundaries. The place node represents a "populated place", which is a separate thing from a municipality.

I have retagged Bridgewater as a town due to its average population for a Boston suburb; additionally, it is not a major retail/business hub, only a secondary one.

Hi there! The element you have edited is not for the municipality of Hawley. That would be (relation/1839615), and it is currently tagged with border_type=town to represent what kind of municipality it is.

The element you have edited represents the "populated place" of Hawley, where the value of the place tag represents how significant the place is. Since Hawley is very rural and sparsely populated, the appropriate tag for it is place=hamlet. Places with the place=town tag typically have a large business district, or are large suburbs of a nearby city.

I understand that this distinction might be confusing, so please let me know if there's anything I can clear up for you!

Good luck, I tried upgrading it to a city in the past and someone reverted it

City nodes should be placed in the cultural/economic "center" of the city, not the geographical center. For example, the label for Chicago, Illinois is not in the geographical center, but rather in its downtown area next to Lake Michigan.

Hello, thank you for your contributions for the map! In the future, please use the correct tags for the features being added. For example, use highway=street_lamp on the street lamps you've added here. Using incorrect tags (such as leisure=park on a street lamp) can cause confusion for some programs that use OpenStreetMap data.

Hello, thank you for your edit! I have added the building and parking lot based on VBMP imagery, which is more up-to-date than Bing, which is selected by default.

This is at least the third time you have added the Powhite Parkway extension after it has been deleted by another user. Please discuss with the user instead of just adding it back. (for what it's worth I support it being on the map with the tag proposed:highway=motorway since the project is already mostly approved)

Why did you make Reynoldsville and Covert (both tiny and not even counted by the census) villages, but Interlaken (population 450, more than large enough for place=village) a Hamlet? This edit seems quite inconsistent with what criteria it uses.

Adding the name tag to route relations that do not have a name distinct from their reference goes against current community consensus. Please see discussion here: https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/planned-edit-to-re-tag-descriptive-names-in-road-route-relations-in-the-united-states/1

Hi, I noticed many buildings mapped by you are not properly squared off. After you draw the outline of each building, push "Q" to square off the corners. This will make the map much neater.

Forgot to change the changeset comment. It's supposed to say: "reverted way that was accidentally dragged"

I added the name "Pheasant Trail" based on the address data. Specifically, there is a cluster of houses that had the street name "Pheasant Trail." The E-911 dataset from the Rhode Island GIS (from which the NAD derives) also has this street name.

However, these sources sometimes make mistakes!
