Recent diary entries
I've recently gotten back into flying in the real world and found that the more recent alternative to Microsoft's Flight Simulator X is X-plane 10. Xplane uses OSM to populate real world data into the scenery for local airports and areas. Well, unfortunately San Marcos, TX and the outlying areas are in an 'auto-gen' category, meaning that only roads, some towers, and major power lines are documented accurately.
I will be editing/adding/modifying the area starting with the airport and surroundings. This is mainly to make converting the OSM data to X-plane scenery more accurate and pleasing when I practice flying. This is so I can navigate the area in a sim without having to waste too much money in the air.
Of course the added benefit of this is updating the OSM data for the rest of the world. It seems there are a few editors in the area but have not been active for some long time.
Either way, this is going to be one hell of a project that will obviously never end, but get to the a point where I am satisfied with what I see in the air.
