Hello TausifJutt,

I changed the classification of these highways back to primary as they have been historically primary for a while now and I couldn’t find any recent public sources indicating road updates or re-designations that justify upgrading them to trunk. Based on the OSM Wiki for Pakistan, the trunk classification is typically reserved for national highways (connecting cities or regions across provinces) and neither Samundari–Faisalabad Road nor the East/West Canal Expressway appear to be listed as national highways (osm.wiki/WikiProject_Pakistan). Based on my research the East/West Canal Expressway is officially a city-district (municipal) expressway, primarily serving urban traffic and connecting major areas within Faisalabad, which aligns with the primary classification (highway=primary)

I’m happy to collaborate and reach consensus on the correct classification for these ways. Could you share your reasoning for mapping them as trunk instead of primary? Thank you!

Hello Jacksonville, thanks for making those changes! In regards to the M-15 Motorway tagged south of Mansehra, that has been motorway for several years now. There may be multiple factors for why that is currently Motorway. It might be best to leave it as is and try to involve more community members in that decision.

Hello Jacksonville,
I noticed that you are currently working on updating the motorway network in Pakistan. In one of your edits, a portion of the M-15 Motorway was reclassified from trunk to motorway. Based on (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M-15_motorway (Pakistan)), this route is technically named the M-15 Motorway, which is a bit misleading in regards to OSM. Motorways are typically described as having at least two lanes in each direction with some degree of separation (highway=motorway). There is also documentation for Pakistan tagging guidelines on (osm.wiki/WikiProject_Pakistan) which can help determine road classifications. With this in mind, would you consider reclassifying this section back to trunk?

I look forward to hearing from you!
Best regards,

Hi adiatmad, thanks for the question! Unfortunately, Maxar's imagery intended for public use is no longer available. Apple has an agreement with Maxar to use their more recent imagery to edit OpenStreetMap, which is not publicly available for editing. We generally try to use the imagery that is already available in JOSM but where we do use that more recent imagery, we always cite it and the date the imagery is from in the changeset source. Have a nice day

Hello TausiffJutt, I noticed that you split the road and classified the segments as primary_link at the intersection of Sheikhupura–Hafizabad Road and Hafizabad Bypass Road (way/1242186016). According to the OSM Wiki “The _link tags are used to identify slip roads/ramps and "channelised" (most commonly physically separated) at-grade turning lanes connecting the through carriageways/through lanes of highways to other roadways of all types.” (osm.wiki/Highway_link). Looking at Esri World Imagery there is no physical or painted divider at this intersection and no apparent channelized turning lanes. How would you feel about updating the modeling here to a singular lane with base primary classification?

I have also noticed that you have been deleting ways with history (Example: way/289224283). As OSM users we try to minimize deletion of history because it preserves users contributions on features and helps provide context for an area and how it’s changed overtime. You can read more about this on the OSM wiki: osm.wiki/Keep_the_history. Do you mind explaining your reasoning for deleting these ways?

Looking forward to hear from you!

Hello mueschel, thanks for reaching out. The original user to add the tag “HTV=Yes” was Diaparic, I simply transferred the existing tags over when I split the way to add a “bridge=yes” tag. I did not adjust that HTV tag as I do not have the resources to do so, however, if you know if this tag should be hgv=yes that would be helpful. I also noticed that the name tag changed from ‘Chota Lahor Road’ to ‘jalsai to Chota Lahor Road’ in changeset/145300536. Do you happen to know if that is inaccurate as it seems like a destination note. Thanks and Happy Mapping!
