I just checked a bunch more of the V1s and yes, in one case I had marked something as construction=tertiary, which was later changed to waterway=ditch. I'm still not seeing either revisions or terrible work. I admit that some of the geometry was a little off, but that was also a function of the imagery available 2 years ago, as you have so aptly called out in your diary about the problems of Bing imagery. Likewise, i don't see any of my work in your revisions of the last month according to your NEIS page. Anyway, thank you for your feedback and thank you for keeping the OSM data in Ghana up to the highest quality!

I'm terribly sorry that you found my edits such poor quality. I try very hard to make sure that any additions via the facebook roads are manually checked since they are often incorrected and almost never the right class or surface, and usually aren't connected to the existing road network. I know they can be problematic. Many of the changes I did were to update road surfaces based on observed surfaces from Bing, and ESRI. Especially while trying to locate health facilities in Ghana, I use RapidiD not for the Facebook roads or Bing/Google Buildings, but because it includes ESRI Wayback imagery where I can see if/when features change over time. So just because there is the "RapidId" tag doesn't mean that it was used exclusively for computer vision predicted features.

I just spot checked 20 ways where I was the v1, and saw that in a two cases the imagery has changed since when I made the original features 2 years ago, and so updated the geometry, and class (in one case), but other than that, I stand by those edits. Could you please point me to a specific case so I can see which edits were problematic and improve my editing skills?

Sorry there were some un-uploaded edits from Greece still hanging in Go Map!

So the concern was that I uploaded entrances in a church in my hometown, whilst living abroad, not something with how I did it? Okay. Thank you for checking and keeping OSM free from spam and other nefarious things.

Dear Frans,

Thanks for the updates. I see the residential you deleted and the shift from ground to unpaved. I see under the guidelines here: osm.wiki/Highway_Tag_Africa#Typology_of_Road_Network_in_African_countries that ground is acceptable.

RE issues reported by iDeditor, I don't always fix them if they weren't initially caused by me. If I have time to fix other people's issues, I do, but not always given the scale of what needs doing. If it was caused by me and I didn't fix it, I'm sorry and will be more diligent going forward.

I just cleared two errors on one track but then two other prexisting ones popped up involving that feature and some waterways, and will now be attributed to me though I didn't cause them.

Thank you for checking my work and I hope it improves in the future. Please keep commenting on my work and I'll try to keep the quality up.

Best,

Walker

Can you please confirm which roads are problematic? I see residential roads only in the village/town there, and unclassified roads outside the town, as they should be.

Indeed. This option was selected because area=border_control does not exist. And government=Customs also requires a building tag. This was added at the request of the then-government so they could do an inventory. There are other places with the border control tag that also don’t have buildings because they did the border controls with people from vehicles. Afghanistan, like so many places, does not always lend itself to neat tagging. If you really want to have a heart attack, check out all the roads that are also rivers, which is correct or the schools. Thank you for keeping the map as accurate as it can be.

If you have a better tagging combination, do tell and I’m happy to make it so.

Hi Nordpfeil, I hope you're doing well. Thank you so much for your work. I wanted to bring to your attention that some of your roads have "unclassified" being misspelled, which means they don't render and cannot be used for routing. Would you mind fixing them? in case it helps, here is the Overpass turbo link: http://overpass-turbo.eu/s/1cOf

If you want to build the query yourself, the tag is: “highway=Unclasisified”

Respectfully yours,

Walker

Hi! Your edits look great! Thank you for putting in so much work on Afghanistan. I see you use ID editor a lot, have you ever looked at using RapID to quickly add even more roads? If you're interested check out mapwith.ai it's Facebook's computer vision extraction efforts. Happy Mapping!

Dear Hassanpoor sb,

Is this part of an organized mapping effort?

Dear Rohullah,

just like the other changesets, please stop making building overlapping buildings. The buildings you are putting in are not visible on any imagery source and your comments don't imply a ground survey or other source of data. Please confirm source?

Dear Rohullah,

Thanks for contributing to the map in Afghanistan. I see you're putting in a lot of Buildings overlapping buildings. This topological issue reduces the usability of OSM, and is incorrect.

Here are some materials on the digitization of buildings: https://learnosm.org/fa/coordination/remote-tracing/

I'm happy to hold a mapathon and work with you and your friends and colleagues on this.

Dear Rohullah,

Thank you for contributing to OSM. I'm confused by the tags you have used here. Building=household is not one of the accepted tags by OSM. Maybe you mean place=plot? place=plot

Here are the generally accepted building options: osm.wiki/Buildings#Building

Could you please correct your tags? Thanks!

Dear Taha,

Thank you for improving the map of Afghanistan! I'm writing to you today to say that the "maxar premium" imagery layer is newer than "Bing" and often a little clearer. Take care and happy mapping!

Hi there. Like the ones in Iran, are you using Maxar Premium? It is the newest imagery in Afghanistant.

Hi there. Thank you for contributing to OpenStreetMap! I'm trying to find the roads that you placed, but i do not see them on imagery anywhere. Can you please tell me which imagery you are using? Maxar Premium layer is usually the most up to date. Are these new roads?

Walker

Dear Ratrun,

I see your imagery source is Bing. Bing imagery for Afghanistan is very very old. You may want to check Maxar Premium for the newest imagery.

Dear Mohaqeq,

Thank you so much for your work! These look great! If you want to check out some additional resources, check out https://mapwith.ai/

Using that we can add many many roads to the map quickly.

Thank you for helping make the map of Afghanistan the best it can be!

Warm regards,

Walker
