It would be possible to just remove the buildings, but I think it may be a good idea to preserve the data. One issue with removing them completely is someone may look at older imagery and draw them back in. Here's a link about the lifecycle tags if you haven't seen it yet - osm.wiki/Lifecycle_prefix

Hello, I added destroyed: tags since the buildings appear to have been destroyed in recent imagery (Maxar and Bing) when compared to older Esri World Imagery (Clarity) Beta Imagery. I used these lifecycle tags to preserve the old data and that the buildings once existed. Let me know if you have further questions. Thanks!
