So are some trunk and primary roads but it doesn't make them motorways - there are well established standards for road tagging in the UK and this is not correct.

Well there's no reason to think that's the entire pipeline, it's just the part somebody managed to map, which is why the ends don't connect to anything.

Here is the Bing Streetside imagery (a legitimate OSM source) for the Churchfield Road crossing which shows the marker pole: https://www.bing.com/maps?osid=3ca5f821-d9a0-4006-b135-aefee2f4106a&cp=51.814756~-0.164404&lvl=17&dir=116.25515&pi=-16.045433&style=x&v=2&sV=2&form=S00027

Personally I generally prefer to keep business tags on the building. I'm not sure how accurate the building location is now - it doesn't match the bing imagery but that might be the imagery.

I've remerged them now

Here is overpass finding ways for amenity=pub just fine: https://overpass-turbo.eu/s/1xPL

138839347 over 2 years ago

Firstly that's completely untrue as overpass is perfectly capable of searching for ways and secondly we don't downgrade our data just to help some third party tool - we fix the tool instead!

Yes that was what started it - them complaining to Royal Mail and RM telling them to complain to map operators about not updating with new post codes.

137022808 over 2 years ago

I was in correspondence with the owner who was complaining that search wasn't finding him which seems a bit at odds with the idea of it being private, as does the whole leisure=park thing...

It would probably be better if somebody local could investigate what the real story is on the ground to figure out the correct tagging.

I grew up in Wotton which is why I was watching the area and just found it quite amusing though I have seen similar things before. To actually get it changed more generally you'll probably have to persuade Gloucestershire as Highways Authority and get them to update the NSG assuming it has the wrong name...

91633155 about 5 years ago

I'm curious if you've managed to find any signs on the ground with that name? It appears you're right that the addresses along there are all given as Wotton road yet every map I can find from the 70s up until the very latest OS OpenMap data has the New Road name! Unfortunately it seems that Gloucestershire don't have their highway gazetteer on line so I can't check that :-(

No idea how that happened - it was originally just layer. I've change it back now.

It's a bit bogus really - it was done because a road goes through the building (or more likely under a canopy) which I would probably have done with -1 on the road but it doesn't really matter.

That's what we call "tagging for the renderer" because there is no actual difference in physical height on the ground and you have only changed it in order to make one specific renderer draw it the way you want.

I'm not going to change it, but for future reference you shouldn't really do that.

63775199 about 7 years ago

I suspect I left that as primary all this time just to avoid the rendering artefact where it hits the roundabout at the eastern end (which is hard to fix in the style) but you are correct that it should really be trunk not primary.

Hmm now I see that there are whole load of others that have been changed in the same way so I guess that makes it more likely that the site is being used as the source.

54300938 about 8 years ago

Adding a link to the web site doesn't raise a license issue - it would only be an issue if the web site was the source of knowledge about the store and I see nothing here to suggest that.

Since when did we map "speculative" anything?

36501921 almost 10 years ago

So that would be name=SPAR; operator=Spar then.

This is why we ask you to discuss mechanical edits before doing them.

36502116 almost 10 years ago

I assume you followed osm.wiki/Automated_Edits_code_of_conduct for this mechanical edit?
