sorry meant temporary as in not permanent...

Noticed https://www.facebook.com/groups/1477813459124815/permalink/4351955785043887 now shows a picture of 3 bollards seemingly making it harder to access this section but not physically preventing it. Think will have to try and have a look in person and what signage is now in place. It is meant to be as they are concerned about pollution levels for pedestrians and seemingly not temporary.

Thanks for adding it back and tidying up the scrub land area. I have heard Hersham Golf Course is going to be sold for housing so wondered if this road was somehow already absorbed! Whatever sounds like we will back at some point if the plans go ahead. https://hershamfuture.co.uk/ suggests still consulting

Hi
Just wondering what has happened to Abbotts View near Hersham Station and Golf Course ? way/192598451/history/1 suggests was deleted in your changeset here. Can't see any obvious indication the road and houses on it have been demolished? Regards Tim

Thanks Graham. Have done. Yeah good compromise location as the original one is pretty much now a running lane of the A3 on the other side of it. I ran past it tonight (Wednesday). Still there :) Have you spotted the other resited one - about a mile north also to the side of the NMU path by a balancing pool. osm.org/edit?gpx=12452233#map=18/51.320763/-0.449643

Hi
Just seen you added the resited Hyde Park Corner 20 milestone. I had actually already added it - osm.org/edit?node=14053687811#map=19/51.312337/-0.466109 and tried to get the exact new location with my GPS and reference to the NMU path I also had added. As such hope you don't mind if delete your one? Also the "Name" field here I think is a bit tricky. I think in OSM terms it doesn't really have a specific one. The Milestone Society code I added to the notes. Regards Tim

Noted about removed stuff. There has been a huge amount of change in the last year of two due to the M25/A3 junction improvement works. I have been mapping the new bits and removed some of the old. I thought the original location was useful at least for a bit but the "bit" happy to accept has passed. I did remap the new location at osm.org/edit?changeset=182789325#map=19/51.312117/-0.466209 but another mapper has just gone and added it again at a slightly "wrong" location osm.org/edit?changeset=182789325#map=19/51.312117/-0.466209 Further, the name of that one "Hyde Park 20" is somewhat contrived as that is more a summary description - besides would be Hyde Park Corner. Am inclined to also delete that one?

Hello Robert & other local mappers. I ran these four cul-de-sacs to the east side of Reigate Road last night. Warren Farm Close, Linnet Close, Juniper Place, Hornbeam Close. Based on "private road" type signage and "feel" all I would say are ownership=private. For access it is more tricky but I would put motor_vehicle=private based on various forms of residents only parking signage on each of them (or at least most of them). destination access I am never keen on and according to OSM guidance there is no "except for access" signage as per motor_vehicle=destination On foot there is no gate on any of them and no real feeling I should not be there other than the "pointless" (in general) of running up a dead enf. TBH access=yes with the motor_vehicle=private and ownership=private would be my "vote" for all of them on a pattern have used generally on my travels for citystrides

Hi - I noticed you changed the new asphalt NMU route from Redhill Road to Cockcrow Bridge highway=path to highway=bridleway. Although the signage on the ground does show these as Public Bridleways, in UK OSM practice highway=bridleway is normally used for physically horse‑first rural bridleways. These NMUs are engineered, wide, multi‑user paths where the primary design intent is clearly cycling and walking, not traditional bridleway form.

To reflect both the physical reality and the legal status, I originally mapped them as:

highway=path
designation=public_bridleway
foot=designated
bicycle=designated
horse=designated

This also avoids them rendering as narrow “green woodland paths”, which they definitely are not. The physical survey was done on the ground - these NMUs were only built in the last year, so they won’t appear in 2022 LiDAR or older aerial imagery.

If you’re OK with it, I’d like to revert to the previous tagging so the map reflects what’s actually on the ground.

Thanks Tim

Hi. Is this road actually called "Goods" ? I suspect it is describing a purpose of it which could also be for deliveries. "When not to use" at name=* may well apply and, if so, should be left blank.

I ended going for "gravel" as that is how a Crown Estates leaflet describes it. "The Avenue" is classified "fine gravel" which I might query as a bit too nuanced but left it. It is tricky here as these two are the only ones most people go on as everything else can indeed be "muddy" !! I see that this path from Oxshott and looping round as been marked a bridle path which again is subject to opinion when "The Avenue" is a land access track. I guess it does at least allow the default renderer to highlight the two as "different" to the myriad of lesser used and often very muddy paths elsewhere

Hello Robert I see you have been mapping in Princes Coverts. The "bridle" path from the Avenue taking a right towards Oxshott is well defined one with a "compacted" surface albeit not an artificial one. "Dirt" is probably doing it a disservice. Venturing north from that junction with the Avenue towards Malden Rushett I rarely if ever go down. From memory that certainly is not so good at all. BTW I added a small car park at the Oxshott end. I was only there the other day "striding" the adjacent new build Merrileas Drive.

Thanks for the comments. I have made a change to remove the name but put the two "local" ones in the loc_name field separated by a semi colon. This does seem to allow to search for either. All largely based on osm.wiki/w/index.php?title=Names That said there isn't an example scenario in that where there is no obvious actual name but local one(s). If you have any other suggestions to best tag this please say.

I think "Frith End" is just the name of this general area or indeed "village" as I see has been marked on the map. node/2743475436 I've left the same comment on the changeset you suggested but no reply yet but will give it a bit longer. I guess it is possible it is a sort of "nickname" given by those who live there for a road that does not have an actual name. Actually just thought to look on Find My Street and it gives it as "Grooms Farm Lane". Indeed https://www.truemanandgrundy.co.uk/property/grooms-farm-lane-frith-end/ even references it for ap property there. So maybe go with that? You are right it might just give me a reason to go and run it as is a nice area generally anyway. Thanks for your help!

PS found https://themovemarket.com/tools/propertyprices/mowlands-farm-frith-end-bordon-gu35-0qr which refers to houses along said road. The postal addresses just seem to refer to the locality of Frith End and not an actual road. Also checked historic OS maps and no road names mentioned.

Hi. Is this "road" really called "The Bumpy Road" perhaps by some sign on the ground or maybe more of a description of the nature of it which IMHO is not the purpose of the "Name" field. Thanks Tim

161249117

Ah thanks! Probably best to ask the same question on that changeset. I am a runner and am active with CityStrides.com where the aim is to try and run all the "public" streets in an area and noticed this one has appeared after a synch with OSM here. Sounds like you can at least go down it "legally" on foot and more so if less stiles but equally feel important OSM isn't full of "made up" names!

Have done thanks. Never quite sure if bridlepath is really more a designation than an actual distinct highway type but I see it can be. It seems the whole of Hatch Lane is a designated brideway even if the southern section "really" is a minor/unclassified road. As such was trying to clarify the bits which are not "proper" roads. The bit in question is not for motor vehicles even if get they could through the various gates.
