If you meant rolling the name:en#, etc. changes into this, I wanted to allow the community affected by this to reject it after this change if they wanted to.

That was the original plan, but the upload hit the OSM changeset bounding-box size limit. JOSM then partially uploaded the first 12 objects before the next object expanded the changeset bbox too far, so I closed that changes

To clarify one point: each affected object is only intended to get one new object version. Splitting into multiple changesets does not add extra versions to the same object unless the same object is edited more than once. The
downside is many changesets, not repeated history entries per object.

I'm just running into rate limit issues at the moment, so going to have to wait for that to reset :(

Yes, that's the stage2 change that I'll be doing in a week. Going to collapse all en# (and he#, ru#, etc.) into their alt_name semi-colon separate key. Just giving time for the community to make sure nothing looks wrong.
