Yes, thanks, I saw the resident complaint note.

It does exist of course if people have been using it ~ and as it shows on the satellite images, it is liable to be recreated in the future (i.e. deletion won't solve the problem long term).

If we revert the deletion and correct the tags to 'highway=service', 'service=driveway', 'surface=dirt', it shouldn't be used for routing.

Adding 'access=private' is meant for places with private property signs or similar but probably valid here as noted by land owner complaint.

These would address the issue without degrading the map. Please see the wiki link, as it covers such considerations in more detail. :)

Hi, as this path exists it should not be deleted; it can be marked as 'access=private' (see osm.wiki/Why_can%27t_I_delete_this_trail%3F).

Note, St. John's is given as an example when not to expand abbreviations on OSM Wiki (osm.wiki/Abbreviations); additionally, the city self-styles as "St. John's", legal and official local buildings, etc. use "St. John's", and the local (at city, provincial and country levels) convention is styled "St. John's".

Another Atlantic Canadian city is "Saint John", New Brunswick; proper use of "St. John's" helps distinguish.

As a follow up, note I've set it back (and updated the population); just as I'd like to get the correction into map data quickly .. it kind of shags up address searches, navigation, things like geotagging. Hope you don't mind! :)

Head's up - in this case, it should not be expanded. Note "St. John's" is specifically indicated on the OSM abbreviations page (osm.wiki/Abbreviations).

No worries, there are big parts of the city here which are a bit mixed up. There aren't a lot of high quality public traces about here either. A work in progress! :)

Hey Eireidium,

Looks like a bunch of stuff here has been shifted. Some of the sidewalks here around White Rose Ave./Hebron I have been after verifying locally with GPS (Mr. Lube, Ultramar).

The Bing Aerial imagery in iD is currently actually quite close if not spot on in this area (without offset).

Please be mindful of the local offset/alignment. :)

Ah, I see, I see. Sorry! I was reading this as continuous_sidewalk - both on these nodes, and in this discussion. Eep! The use of continuous_highway here was unintentional and agree, doesn't make much sense. I've changed these two nodes to continuous_sidewalk (see changeset/137045928). Thanks for pointing it out! :)

Hi! St. John's has been moving from crossings where the pavement is broken, to ones where the sidewalk is maintained, for minor accesses (such as parking lots), so to differentiate. Can see also osm.wiki/Continuous_Sidewalk

Indeed, the boundaries in this area are a bit of a state, shouldn't be adding to that problem. Thanks skipper
