Changeset When Comment

This changeset added way/1040659049 which I think is actually a snowmobile trail according to the Sovereign Lake Nordic and Vernon Snowmobile association maps. I don't ski here regularly so I'm not confident about what's going on. Is this segment a special part of the sovereign2silverstar loppet only and not one of the regular Sovereign Lake XC trails? If so I wonder if there is a way to indicate this in the tagging?

Do you know if the trails are consistently groomed? Classic or Skate? And what the difficulty rating would be?

Hi I am attempting to add nordic skiing tags (piste:type=nordic, etc). So the Marsh Lake XC trails show up in ski oriented OSM apps. The trails you added here seem a little inconsistent with the published trail map and with the Stava heatmap data, so I'm not quite sure what to do. I will tag the consistent trails for now, but not change any of the existing data until I get some more information.

It looks to me like this changeset created a nearly duplicate way (ego bowl + jolly green giant) on the same ski piste. Normally this wouldn't be so bad, but in this case the two runs have different difficulty so it seems to render strangely. I think it was better before when Jolly Green Giant had 2 separate, disjoint segments.

I'm doing a check in on OSM mapping of WOP and Callaghan Country trails. I'm wondering why you changed this from piste:type=nordic + piste:grooming=backcountry to piste:type=skitour? I've never done this trail myself but it seems like it should be suitable for nordic backcountry ski gear.

I'm going to go ahead and make this change to merge these ways.

Madeley Explorer snowshoe trail actually uses the same piste as the Beverley Creek backcountry access route. These should be mapped using the same way. I think it is sufficient to have the piste:type=skitour tag applied only via the relation, as this relation also applies to a segment of the madeley creek loop XC ski trail

Thank you. Note there's a separate way for the christmas gully ski descent that uses the OSM Piste Maps tags. However there's no standardized tag for avalanche terrain (yet). If you want to tag for poor marking then you can use trail_visibility=* to indicate trail visibility separately. My recollection from hiking this route without snow was that there was a short pathless section at the start through the meadows, but higher up in the gully it's fine. trail_visibility=bad seems appropriate here.

I disagree with rating this as "alpine hiking". Demanding_mountain_hiking seems like the correct rating to me. Avalanche hazard in winter conditions should not affect the SAC_scale rating for hiking. Otherwise any summer tail in steep terrain would need to be classified as such.

FYI I went ahead and fixed the direction for these ways in a small changeset changeset/118618746

118490213

The specific ways that I found that seem to have the wrong direction are 114239442 and 118490213, but it looks like you didn't touch the first one at all. Perhaps they have been wrong all along?

I think this changeset may have messed up the direction for oneway trail segments on Olympic Cross-Country Blue in the area where the 3.3km and 5km courses split. I'm basing this on the trail rendering with oneway arrows from openskimap.org

Cool I see that they have the new (old) names for these trails, and a few others (Zoey's Saunter) list on their website already, just not on the pdf map. FYI I made an edit today to correct tagging on the backcountry access route relationship but it should not affect the XC trail tags and relationships. I had to repartition some segments on Olympic XC Red

114230810

Which version of the trail map did you base this edit on? Olympic cross-country and Olympic Nordic Combined are the naming used on the latest map. I don't think the red/blue name variants have been used for a number of years. I think you may have based this edit on an old map, and actually made the names incorrect.

I hiked this trail last weekend and thought that sac_scale = mountain_hiking would be a better assessment of the trail difficulty.

I'm curious why you tagged the trail from Sakinaw Lake to Agamemnon channel as access=no? We used this trail to portage a canoe from Sakinaw Lake to the ocean last summer and there did not appear to be any restrictions.

In this instance I did check the Bing airphotos and found the canvec streams to be better than the hand edited steams. There was one conflict area where I corrected a short portion of the canvec import stream to match the imagery and the previous hand-edited stream, but this may not have been reflected in the revision history. I kept all the hand-edited glaciers, as these were much more accurate than the canvec glacier polygons. I think the canvec streams in this area are from a more recent dataset than the glaciers, because some places are mapped as both glaciers and streams in the canvec data and from looking at air photos it is obvious that the canvec streams are correct and the canvec glaciers are downright wrong.

something has gone wrong with the rendering of a water polygon in the Beverley Lake area and I think this edit may be to blame. However, when I render my own map from a geofabrik.de extract, everything is fine. Maybe the OSM rendering server has some corrupted data?

I tried to go up the trail heading north from Rabbit Lane today, and ended up bushwhacking the final 100m along the creek. to Deep Dene Road. Does this trail really connect out to Stevens drive? If so I didn't see any sign of it going that way when I was running up it.

I'm trying to make sense of this changeset to consolidate the two conflicting routes for the Rohr Lake trail. Were you following the Rohr Lake hiking trail when recording this GPS trace? If not, then I think the highway=footway tag ought to be removed.
