| 116046988 | almost 4 years ago | I think you are on the right path, especially since the name= tag is primarily used for whatever name is found on the sign, and that isn't the case (at least until you reach Livingston). But the Mount Pleasant name does seem to be used in some official capacity still. Pulling up the Morris County tax maps at https://morrisgisapps.co.morris.nj.us/apps/morris-tax-maps/ and, for example, we can view Parsippany-Troy Hills Sheet 28 or 28.01 and see the two names concurrent. There are other name tags for more specific scenarios, the wiki has a chart explaining them all
On a not so related note, I'm also looking at how Route 10's classification suddenly changes from trunk to primary at I-287. OSM highway classification is a bit weird from a US standpoint, as it's based off the UK system. I was thinking of asking a more experienced local mapper about that, and I can also get an extra opinion on which name tag (if any) would best fit. |
| 116046988 | about 4 years ago | Hey there, thanks for all the help mapping this area lately! I think this changeset brings up an interesting issue with Route 10. Mount Pleasant Avenue was the name for the road before the highway was built, and some towns still state the 2 names concurrently. In Whippany and East Hanover where the highway partially doesn't follow the original route, OSM had two Mt. Pleasants running parallel. I think it's correct to remove the name from these sections, but Parsippany's tax maps confirm we should readd the name back to Rt 10 at least there. I was wondering if you'd come across some other information which led you to remove the name. I know the name isn't on many of the street signs, so I don't blame you for removing it. Best Regards,

| 116002462 | about 4 years ago | Hey there. I noticed this changeset seems to be for the San Diego area, but you accidentally removed the highway tags from a road in New Jersey. I hope you don't mind that I quickly fixed that for you. Best Regards,

| 113904363 | about 4 years ago | The old Tiger import strikes again... I noticed you've had a great eye for finding these mistakes hiding in plain sight lately. I appreciate all the help! |
| 112042862 | over 4 years ago | Hi there, and welcome to OSM! I've had to revert your changesets, as they deleted several roads through the area due to removing the highway= or aeroway= tags from ways. This also made other roads inaccessible if someone was looking for directions, as the roads they were connected to were no longer tagged as roads. Additionally it appeared you may have left some personal information on the map, so the revert deleted that to help protect your privacy. If you have any questions, feel free to reply in this discussion. I can assist you in mapping what you were trying to work on. Happy Mapping,

| 111870994 | over 4 years ago | Are you familiar with NJDOT's Straight Line Diagrams for state maintained roads? They have speed limits and some other useful info. The speed limits on the SLD for Ridgedale Ave are wrong... but that's a different issue. NJDOT also makes their own streetview for some of these roads too, which has pretty decent image quality. I'm pretty sure they're both open data that we're allowed to use, but don't quote me on that. |
| 111971589 | over 4 years ago | That's unfortunate, I heard the park was a cool hidden gem and was looking to visit it eventually. Though the heatmap shows the entrance is off Kanouse Place, so maybe it was just mapped incorrectly at some point. Anyway, thanks for keeping an eye out for map errors around the area. There's still a lot of errors hiding, buildings to be mapped, and much more, so I appreciate whatever you can do to improve the area. |
| 111971589 | over 4 years ago | Hey there, and welcome to OSM! I was just wondering why you deleted the walking trails from Wrensch Park. According to the Strava Heatmap, there's some sort of trail through the park that is not visible from satellite. Happy Mapping,

| 109717879 | over 4 years ago | No, reverting an edit would count as a second edit and make a second large changeset, plus there's no reason to revert if your changes were improvements. We all made mistakes when starting out, so it's no big deal. Thank you for your contributions, and happy mapping! |
| 109717879 | over 4 years ago | Welcome to OSM! The history tab shows all recent edits made to the map within view. Since you made edits on opposite sides of the world without saving in between, your changeset covers parts of North America, Central America, Asia, Africa, and Europe. In the future, mappers would appreciate if you save more frequently to break up the changesets into smaller areas, about the size of a few towns or smaller to start off with. Once you save, you can edit anywhere else without disturbing the global community. |
| 108121159 | over 4 years ago | Hey there, and welcome back to OSM! Does the dirt road still exist running behind the locked gate? If so, I think it would be best to map that separately from Monroe Street as an unmaintained track road (highway=track). In that case, I'd also add the tag access=no to indicate that there's no public access on that road as well as add a node with barrier=gate to indicate where the locked gate is. Best Regards,

| 100753022 | almost 5 years ago | I have read the wiki definition of leisure=park several times and am aware it differs from the western US definition of a park. With that said, several places that had the park tag removed like Riker Hill Art Park, the Essex County Environmental Center and Essex Golf Center within West Essex Park, and the central part of Becker Park I feel fall within the "human-sculpted landscape" requirement for the park tag. What is your recommendation to improve the tags for these? |
| 98944577 | almost 5 years ago | @wireguy Thanks for the heads up on the lacrosse field. I didn't recognize them, so I kept the tag generic. For mapping baseball fields, I typically follow the baseline and outfield fence when I can, which certainly looks weird for this field. Should I keep it along the fence, or shorten it to an arbitrary spot in the outfield? |
