The issue could possibly be caused by how the new connections display on GPS systems, and drivers are simply mistaking this exit for the one further down. I see that [way/710573640] was previously the connecting road here and is a lower classification which would display less prominently than a trunk link. A potential solution could be downgrading [way/1537214620] and [way/1537214619] to residential; however, this would go against the general OSM wiki guidelines for defining highway links: [osm.wiki/Highway_link].
