It may take up to several days from an edit before the map is rendered. However, I have noticed lately that rendering often is fast, but that old versions of the map is cached locally on my computer. I sometimes have to do shift-reload in the web-browser, to get the latest version of rendered map images.

Sorry to be pedantic, SVdP, but there is a section in the wiki -- http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Key:name -- entitled "Abbreviation (don't do it)". In other words, I think you should type "Drive" or "Avenue" in full.

However, I realise that this advice is not going to be very popular with some users, like you, who are working on areas where there are already hundreds of abbreviated street names. It seems that most British mappers follow the non-abbreviation policy but many American ones do not. Perhaps it would be safer to leave it that way rather than argue over it. I'll leave it up to you. All the best.
