Hi Timothy,

My apologies for the slow response.

You asked me to clarify what I meant by updating the software to understand max height restrictions of nodes.

In the following example there is a barrier mapped as a single node (point) on a road. The routing software understands this and routes the long way round.

My question is therefore "Why do height restrictions have to be moved from nodes on the road to a length of road as Openrouteservice can clearly understand some restrictions mapped on nodes?"

https://openrouteservice.org/directions?n1=52.282232&n2=-1.590657&n3=16&a=52.283893,-1.594627,52.281254,-1.595174&b=0&c=0&k1=en-US&k2=km

Thanks,
Rob

Hello and welcome to OpenStreetMap.

Your edit here does not do what you intend. The bridge information should be added to way that is ON the bridge (not below it). For more see [1].

In this case it is the railway which is on the bridge and this was correctly mapped in OSM. I have therefore gone ahead and reverted this edit.

The max height restriction was also already mapped but only on a single point. I expect you want it mapped on a length of road so that it can be used in your software. As this is an acceptable way of mapping [2] I have made this change for you. Please review the change here so that you can see what I did (the page can be slow to load):

https://overpass-api.de/achavi/?changeset=52668466

You will see that I have split the road into a very small section that passes under the bridge (this means that vehicles over 4 m height can still access the car park entry road just south of the bridge) and put the height restriction on the small section of road only. I then deleted the height restriction from the node/point as this is now duplicate mapping so no longer needed.

I'd also recommend updating your software so that it can understand max height restrictions as this was originally mapped (i.e. on a node not a length of road).

[1] bridge=*
[2] maxheight=*

P.s. Thanks for providing a photo - this really helps me to provide you some help.

Hi Katherine. Thanks for joining OpenStreetMap to add this new residential area to the map! It can be hard to do this when the aerial imagery is missing. I found a source of brand new imagery :-)

Do you want to have a go at updating it again? You will need to open the map editor (iD) and press "B" to bring up the background menu (there is also an icon on the right to open the background settings). If you switch to "Digital Globe Standard Imagery" then you will see the new development and can simply trace this.

Good luck.

Thanks for doing the buildings. We (mappa mercia group) were in Rugeley in May and I only just got to adding my survey notes. Having the buildings mapped made this much easier :-)

I am aware of the turning circle tag and chose not to use that so expect no change required, but as noted, I will check.

Most satellite imagery is out of date for this location. I am sure I mapped it right but will check again when next in Coventry.

Whilst we are having this conversation, can we agree the format. I see 3 choices:

"Morfa Mawr / Queen's Road"
"Morfa Mawr - Queen's Road"
"Morfa Mawr;Queen's Road"

The Belgium community uses the second, the use of ";" in the third is well established. Does anyone else use "/"?

The issue with the Belgium approach here is that "-" is used within the Welsh name quite frequently.

Good spot! We need a way of sharing our list of checked edits so that we don't duplicate effort :-)

Hi and welcome to OpenStreetMap. It looks like you have used the "name" box to add descriptions. This isn't necessary as we already have the detail that this is a meadow. You may want to check out some historic maps to see if these fields actually have names. A good place to look is on the National Library of Scotland's website (the map section has historic maps for all of GB).

Hi and welcome to OpenStreetMap. Good work on your first few edits :-) Beware though - the bing imagery is misaligned and quite old now. Imagery from Warwickshire County Council is more up to date and has better alignment. For more see http://www.mappa-mercia.org/2014/03/warwickshire-aerial-imagery.html

I've moved this back in line with the WCC imagery.

Hi. Welcome to OpenStreetMap. Can you just confirm - is this neighbourhood City Wharf or Canal View as we have both names?

Hi, Thanks for contributing to OSM. If you were wondering why the path didn't show up it was because you hadn't marked it as a path. You need to draw the line (as you did) then specify that it is a path.

I've fixed this now so it should appear soon.

Also you can view all paths we know the legal designation for on: http://product.itoworld.com/map/87?lon=-1.84506&lat=52.20955&zoom=13&fullscreen=true&open_sidebar=map_key

Thanks for editing OpenStreetMap. I've adjusted this slightly to add the leisure=miniature_golf tag so that it appears properly.
