I am mapping using CoMaps form my phone, shere i can't add a description.

But other mappers using other interfaces could put these descriptive names in the description instead of deleting them outright...

Removing these descriptive names without adding a correct one just because of a "good practice" (not a rule!) is greatly downgrading OSMs quality.
So no thx.
I will inform myself and contact the working group on this.

I will certainly not share them, as the names contain useful info for me and other users.

Please Herman_Lee check around, literally 50% of all other places in all of China have similar descriptive names. This is common practice _aaaall_ around the globe.
+ I can not write Chinese, and would make mistakes if i tried, as do probably many other mappers in China

Yes, when mapping i can only add the name tag.
These were newly mapped objects in areas with very little existing data. Therefore i wanted to add as much information as possible, for travellers who pass through this might be the first town in days/weeks (as it was the case for me).

As i repeatedly said: non-correct english name tags are common in such remote poorly mapped areas, just check many other points in Yushu. Since there isn't much information mapled anyway this only enriches and can be vital information for users of OSM

Chinese or Tibetan i might add

I'm mappingbon a mobile device hence have no access to the name:en tag.
And my intention was to improve map by adding new points, not to replace or remove any local names. The name can still be corrected at a later date by someone who can write the correct Chinese name.

Additionally i urge you again to consider that i map on my mobile phone, and not on a computer (which I don't have with me currently).
And i consider my mappings not to be final, i add missing places. The name can always be corrected later, but better to have the place added in some form than not at all.

Hi Herman,
I think your reaction is exaggerated. I'm only able to speak very little Chinese, let alone write it, or type the correct characters (which I don't knowthe pronunciation of) on my phone.
Notwithstanding that myriads of other places in China are named in english or with the latin alphabet, which is not against OSM rules.

Ok, which characters of the name are exactly "Mi Xue"?
Or should i use the characters a translator app gives me when i enter "Mi Xue Ice cream and Tea"?

Hi Herman Lee,
I'm mapping on a mobile device where I can't add a description tag.
Besides, many other points all around the world put descriptive tags in the name. Because it's useful when accessing OSM through mobile apps where you often don't have access to the description and just see the name displayed on the map.

I'm aware that this isn't correct practice for osm. But
1. We are talking about remote and barely mapped areas here, so "correct practice" isn't really relevant as literally nothing else is mapped.
2. the same practice, of adding descriptive information to the name, is applied when mapping remote areas all across the globe

Hi Taksine,
I'm aware of the name regulations.
However:
1. most of the places i added were in remote villages. For example the only shop in an area that sells vegetables. Such places don't have proper names, however for users that use these OSM points (which here are mainly non-locals, viewing OSM through a scaled down fromat on an app on mobile device) such descriptive tags are highly valuable. Names like "Shop with vegetables" doesn't introduce any peoblems while adding valuable information.
2. I'm following along with other name tags, which are descriptive, added in these regions.

All in the aim of helping users maximising the information they can retrieve from OSM.
