Hello mos_next_door. I looked at (osm.wiki/Highway_link#Special_considerations_for_motorways), which states “motorway has a legal implication: certain classes of vehicles (such as bicycles) and drivers (such as learners) cannot use motorways. The same restrictions apply to their motorway_links.” and “motorway links are applied all the way up to where they meet a surface street”. Here, that is the end of (osm.org/way 627854615) at (node/5149580367). I’ll reclassify it to tertiary which matches the other side of the parking lot. Thank you and happy mapping!

Hello soliMM!

SableIsland is no longer on the team, so I will be handing this on their behalf, Thank you for reaching out and mentioning that (node/11422567116) and (node/11422567115) already act as pedestrian crossings. Happy mapping!

In the illustrative examples on the Wiki under “Selection of the right highway tag”, there are cases where the highest-classified roads connecting to a roundabout are _link roads, yet the roundabout itself is tagged with the highest non-link classification entering it. My interpretation of these examples is that a roundabout should be classified according to the highest non-link road that enters it.

At the time of my edit, way/45557151, way/23727007, way/1282746910, and way/723084290 were tagged as trunk_link, and the roundabout itself was tagged as tertiary, with no tertiary road directly connecting to it. After my edit, BerryTrails retagged those trunk_link ways as tertiary. In retrospect, I realize that the correct approach would have been for me to reclassify the connecting roads rather than changing the roundabout to residential.
My apologies for the oversight, and thank you for your patience. I hope you have a nice day.

Hello rarad74,

I made this residential since, according to policy(junction=roundabout), the highest classified roads that are not links that intersect this roundabout are residential. The user BerryTrails has since reclassified the trunk and tertiary links to tertiary in this changeset(changeset/177031565). Based on this update, I agree that tertiary now makes sense for the roundabout classification, but am open to further thoughts on this.

Thank you, and have a nice day.

Hello Dimitar155,

Thank you for the reminder. I have gone ahead and updated the surrounding features, and will keep this in mind for future updates like this one.

Happy mapping!
