Hello JaidenV, welcome to OSM - looks like this is your first edit. I have corrected two things with your additions here.

First is the residential road off Heathley Park Drive. When there is a T at the end of the cul-de-sac you need to either use two ways (main road and across the end), or just use one way with either a straight end (ignoring the turning area) or an L shape. You added the road so that it went back on top of itself, which isn't how roads go!

Secondly to do with the residential area you added: it was on top of another residential area and used some nodes of other local features that should not be joined, such as the route of a disused railway. Please be careful to not overlap areas like this. (Also note that landuse=residential is usually a lot larger areas that those used on this estate, but a previous mapper has created smaller areas of houses here - it's always good to continue with what others have done in the area unless you are experienced and know that it is generally accepted to be wrong.)

Are you local to this area? You have made a few edits all around the world - I recommend starting with a few small edits in areas near where you live and are knowledgable about the local area and learn from there. Please join a local mailing list and ask for help if you are not sure!

Hi Mike,

Either tagging works for me (highway="footway" restricts it from cars or cycles in my view, too), so quite happy to go with your suggestion.

However, thinking about it a vast number of the campus paths are cycled along, too. Might need some careful consideration on a case-by-case basis (e.g. adjacent to road? Definitely foot only. Off-road (esp. fairly wide without steps)? Both). I'll think about it.

For the record, I've found a video I recorded with the entrance sign, which reads:

"Permissive Path. The use of this path by members of the public on foot or by bicycle is expressly with the permission of the university who reserve the right to close this path at any time without notice."

So at least the permissions are correct :)

Cheers!
Matthew

Hi Mike,
Sure, that makes good sense. I thought I only edited roads, but I might have caught a few footways up by mistake. There's a lot of existing random differences that need tidying.
As time permits I plan to go across the site in more careful detail. Maybe footways should just be "access=permissive", though it might not be worth it.
Cheers,
Matthew

Hi Mike,
That was intentional. The general public do walk/cycle across campus, and the university makes no attempt to stop them. There are signs at at least some entrances to the effect of "permissive access, no public right of way, access may be limited at any time" (I'd need to go and look again for the exact wording). Which means that cars are limited (barrier/gatehouse/permit, so private only) but walking and cycling is generally permissive. There are also signs "no exercising animals on campus" which implies both dog=no and walking is permissive. There's actually at least one public cycle path that goes briefly through campus (and the university does annoyingly close occasionally, just to prove a point).
Open to suggestions of better tagging, though - wanted to start trying to tidy up the existing mess of access tags! I specifically removed the walking/cycling permissive tags on some areas such as through the estates yard where not even university people generally have access.
Cheers,
Matthew
