Thanks for your email and advice regarding OpenStreetMap it's much appreciated. I wasn't sure why previous contributors had left the "gaps" and to me it looked neater without them. There aren't gaps in the real world! Now that I understand the reason I will try to follow your advice.

I do have one question you might be able to answer. In my area there are many isolated houses surrounded by their associated gardens. Is there an accepted object name for the garden area? Most seem to be called Farmyard at the moment but this obviously isn't correct. For more than one house together I can see that Residential Area might be correct but for a single house?
