I have gone ahead and fixed all the camp sites in this campground and set them to camp_pitch instead.

I was using the MAPS.ME app while walking around the campground. When adding a new place to the map using the app, it only has one category called "Camping" which sets the tag camp_site.

Perhaps the app could be improved to have more categories.

temporary adds on the go as maps.me doesn't have a category for camp site in the add tool

that was temporary as maps.me doesn't have church when adding new item
