| 129607026 | about 3 years ago | Hello rivermont, The tracks were pulled up in many places approximately 40 years ago, but the rail bed is still continuous and visible in imagery. Much of the rail corridor between Petersburg and Raleigh was purchased recently by Virginia and North Carolina for restoration of passenger service. Though, it will take years to restore. I'm not sure if I tagged the relation correctly, but they could be changed if there's a better practice for rail corridors preserved for future use. |
| 40882029 | over 9 years ago | Hi Jumbanho. Thanks for adding the trails to the map. I'm not familiar with Strava heatmap or how it works, but I am very familiar with the area the link leads to. I spent several days helping with the construction of the trail near Goshen Branch, so I can verify the trail does not join the parkway as depicted. The MST follows Goshen Branch to Day's Creek, then passes underneath a parkway viaduct before joining Bambo Road. This is just an example of one error I've seen between Moses Cone and Stone Mountain. Most of the trail doesn't look bad, but I noticed multiple places where the routing is inaccurate. There are references on the FMST website which can help verify routing (though these works are brand new and not yet free of error). http://www.ncmst.org/the-trail/trailguide/ http://www.ncmst.org/the-trail/interactive-map/ |
