Hi QuiLe, thank you for the source!

Somehow, I missed that source, but it does corroborate the information from the planning documents I've dug up. I'll be implementing the new names soon.

Hello! OpenRailwayMap's wiki describes that name tags on tracks would ideally be the subdivision name or similar and even gives line as a descriptor. The line color names on tracks are a step towards naming DART's light rail segments after their project name as I am currently in the process of consolidating historical planning documents from DART's development to properly name the segments in accordance with their project names.

The tag railway=light_rail already describes what types of vehicles traverse the tracks, naming them DART Light Rail would be like naming an interstate Dallas Highway.

Regardless, the new trackage naming is frankly more consistent with other railway and transit infrastructure in the US. Seattle, Minneapolis, and LA have the physical tracks named in accordance with the routes on them alongside the route relations. The argument that any LRV can traverse over any of the lines does not really make sense to me, as the physical infrastructure and the route traveled by trains are not necessarily mutually inclusive and can be two different things. An Orange Line train can travel on Blue/Red Line tracks if heading to CROF. The trackage name isn't what determines the route the train is running.

I do concede that the names aren't perfect as DART could change service patterns or change the line names. That is why I'm working to identify the names of their projects that better fit the subdivision/branch/line guide when naming tracks similar to what I did in Atlanta.

Hi there, I agree with your premise. CROF is just what name I saw the most predominantly and it did not occur to me to unabbreviate the name there. As such, I'll change that. Thank you!
