The names of the localities of the French Basque Country are also justifiable in Basque as in French. Although today the official language is French, the names of villages are originally Basque, and they are used by a large part of the population. The signalling system for example is totally bilingual. Furthermore, writing the toponymy in both languages allows to protect and to spread the use of the Basque language, which every day loses speakers.
