Well - why is there a different practice for the bigger cities then? If You go to Helsinki or Turku or to Brussels you will find a lot of spellings that are not in any road signs? In these cases I add a Swedish name in the other scandinavian languages so that name will even be written onj teh signs. So will not a lot of these other names that are entered.

I do understand that rule but: But You get into problems with Estonian and Norwegian, Danish and Islandic in those cases. The main name will be the one of the majority of the municipality. But because those languages are so closly related to Finnish or Swedish that they have to be able to use the finnish version of the names in Estonian or Swedish in Norwegian, Danish and Islandic, no matter what the main language is of that municipality. To add the Finnish names as Estonian will grant the use in Estonian and to add the Swedish names for the Scandinavian languages will grant these languages to use the names that are close to their lown anguages although the mainname will be in the other language.

In international use the names are to be used in the main language of the municipality. With the following exceptions:
In Finnish related Estonian the Finnish name is to be used although the municipality is mainly Swedish spekaing.
According to a Scandinavian agreement names in Swedish are to be used in the Swedish related languages although the main language of the municipality is Finnish.
These rules can be found at kotus.fi
