| 119104630 | almost 4 years ago | I've now made this change.
|
| 119104630 | almost 4 years ago | Ah, that would make sense, because the section of SH 59 between Paekākāriki and Mackays Crossing is still under construction. This would only be until that's completed though: NZTA's maps show SH 59 as the cycle route. |
| 119088641 | almost 4 years ago | I've just put your changes back now, by the way -- all in time for when traffic hits the road in morning peak tomorrow. :) |
| 119088641 | almost 4 years ago | Sorry mate, but you've jumped the gun on this one a bit: the road is officially opened as of now, but only opens to traffic in the early hours of tomorrow. I'm reverting this change, as we really don't want routers routing people over this road until it's actually open for traffic! |
| 115660945 | almost 4 years ago | This isn't a common situation ;) A lot of the signage around the Central Motorway Junction has signed cardinal directional variants, which don't necessarily correspond with destination:arrow. While not a common tag, I thought this to be the most appropriate to describe what's actually on the signage (though, on reflection, it could have also been destination:ref:direction!). Here's a Google Streetview image of one such sign (which I can confirm to be accurate when I was surveying the area on 28-30 December 2021): https://goo.gl/maps/mRp6rLozV7PgWuPw6 If you believe that there's a better way of tagging this edge case, let me know. I'm just not entirely convinced that destination:arrow is it. |
| 116052127 | almost 4 years ago | Probably also worth adding: the split in the northbound direction is on a slight right-hand curve on the Johnsonville-Porirua Motorway, so the physical geometry of the junction isn't too dissimilar from a Y junction. The curves are really slight, so it's not very perceptible from the current LINZ imagery (might be more perceptible when we get post-construction imagery), but it is noticeable when you actually drive it. |
| 116052127 | almost 4 years ago | Actually, motorway to motorway junctions _are_ allowed, but are strongly discouraged (according to the highway=motorway wiki article anyway). From the newly installed signage and road layout, this _may_ (but also may not!) be one of the rare situations where a motorway to motorway junction is acceptable. Compare with the Ngauranga Interchange, which is mapped as a motorway to motorway junction and for which such mapping appears to be widely accepted. |
| 114681826 | about 4 years ago | This photo from a recent Stuff article illustrates what I'm on about:
|
| 114681826 | about 4 years ago | Actually isn't: the signage is partially covered at present, but the bits that aren't clearly show SH 1 as the through route and SH 59 as the diverging route -- which is a bit weird from looking at the road alignment, but true. I've already done the turn:lanes tagging leading up to the split accordingly. Any objection if I revert to highway=motorway? |
| 114681717 | about 4 years ago | I've been thinking about this for the past few days, and it could be debatable whether or not SH 59 should be trunk or primary. On one hand, it will remain an important through route for a lot of people (which suggests trunk is more appropriate), but on the other, it is after all being supplanted by Transmission Gully (so I totally get where you're coming from). As such, the case could be made for either option. Maybe we should take this to the mailing list and get wider consensus? No complaints however about changing SH 58 to primary between Paremata and Pāuatahanui. Last I checked, NZTA's intention is to revoke this section as state highway anyway, though the final decision has not yet been taken. I really don't see anything other than primary being appropriate there. |
| 104427590 | over 4 years ago | Hello, With regarding changing Tunnel Road to motorway, I'm not sure that highway=motorway is the correct tag here -- I don't recall seeing any motorway or expressway signage along this route last time I went along it (admittedly 2 years ago; things may have changed since). If this road isn't explicitly signed as a motorway or expressway, I believe we should revert this to highway=trunk, but add motorroad=yes; the motorroad=* tag describes highways that have motorway-like restrictions but aren't motorways, and it seems this was what your changeset was aiming for. Let me know what you think. --K |
| 84803187 | over 5 years ago | Hello, I've reverted the N7 between the Potsdam and Melkbos interchanges to trunk. I'll explain why... This section still retains at-grade intersections, notably the Old Malmesbury Road junction and the road to Morningstar. These at-grade intersections mean that this section does not meet the OSM definition of motorway, and in fact there are start of/end of motorway signs just north of the Potsdam interchange (at least, they were present last time I drove that section of road in 2018, and I have every reason to believe that they are still there). I'll admit though, it feels like a motorway when you drive it! The Western Cape government does have plans to upgrade this section of road to full motorway standard, and I have previously mapped the proposed interchange that will replace the at-grade intersections. It's been delayed and pushed back so much now, that I don't know when it will happen. Once this project is completed (if ever!), this section of N7 can be retagged as motorway -- but not before. As to where motorway ends and trunk begins: this is simple at the Potsdam Interchange, as there is signage there to demarcate this, and I surveyed the location of this signage to reasonable accuracy in around 2015 or so. There is no such signage around the Melkbos Interchange: here, I consider the transition of road control between the Western Cape government and SANRAL to be an appropriate point (around 300m south of the ramps), since SANRAL has upgraded their stretch of road up to Malmesbury to motorway standard now. Hopefully, this explains things and clears up any confusion... (: --K |
| 64942628 | almost 7 years ago | Hello, I noticed while mapping in the area that this changeset deleted both N2 route relations. I've spent the last few days restoring and reconstructing these relations. Please take more care in future. |
| 52673844 | about 8 years ago | Thanks for the heads-up! Fixed in changeset #53009624. |
| 21213926 | over 8 years ago | Best changeset ever. |
| 40914789 | over 9 years ago | Hi, I believe you made an honest mistake with this -- you probably meant to tag the ZU9ECB radio mast, but you renamed the nature reserve instead! I've reverted the nature reserve tagging back to the way it was before. By the way, you really should use better changeset comments -- it helps other mappers understand what you've changed and why (I had to guess what your intentions were here). See: osm.wiki/Good_changeset_comments Cheers,

| 33870397 | over 10 years ago | I've actually tagged the locations of the begin/end freeway signs from a survey on Saturday afternoon (around exit 22, with note=* tags on the nodes). Hopefully, that will be of help. (: --K |
| 33870397 | over 10 years ago | Hello, The changes that you have made to the N7 in this changeset are incorrect. Due to the existence of begin/end freeway signage at the Potsdam Road interchange (exit 22), tagging the N7 north of this point with highway=motorway is inappropriate. However, from my own surveys, there are sections of the N7 between exits 22 and 39 with motorway-like restrictions: these should be tagged with the appropriate road class (highway=trunk in this case), but additionally with motorroad=yes (I belive that the N7 north of this point previously). See the motorroad documentation: motorroad=* As such, I'd appreciate it if you would correct this. If you're unsure how to, or unsure as to my rationale, please contact me, or join us on the OSM-ZA mailing list. --K |
| 33080182 | over 10 years ago | Hi Jan, Thanks for fixing my mistake. I've gotten it right before -- this should teach me not to do things when I'm half asleep. (: --K |
