Hi,
I'm not sure if you're aware but you deleted the median maritime boundary between Ceuta and mainland Spain, something which while not visible is essential as contains a lot of metadata, such as time zone boundaries etc. I'm aware that we disagree on certain matters, but I'm sure we can agree that this essential geometry should have been restored, as I have now done.
With this fixed, we can continue to discus the issues raised by the international waters to the east of Gibraltar.

Kind regards

Good evening Miguel,

I am well aware of the status of the Treaty of Utrecht, and the Spanish government's position on this. However, this is not a treaty which is widely accepted by the international community. The 1958 convention has been signed by Spain in 1971, therefore invalidating any claim to the Treaty of Utrecht. This is in Article 4. As you say, the status quo until now has been of Gibraltar as an enclave within Spanish territorial waters, something that is deeply incorrect. In the way that Ceuta and Melilla have their own territorial waters (to the 12 nautical mile mark), Gibraltar has the right to, but has not yet claimed this area of sea. This does not mean that by default it goes to Spain. Furthermore, Spain's ratification of the 1958 Convention, therein allowing Ceuta and Melilla to have their own 12 nautical mile zone, by default agrees the same for Gibraltar. I'm afraid in this matter that the UN will always be a higher source of authority than the Spanish government, therefore invalidating your source of information. As you have also deleted the southern maritime boundary (between Spain and Ceuta) which had a large number of tags and data within it, I must revert your changes to preserve this vital OSM data. We can then have a further discussion about Gibraltar's high seas to the east.

I also add that the reason it looks like this is that the UK has decided not to expand Gibraltar's territorial waters to the 12 nautical mile mark, therefore leaving it at 3. This does not mean that it is Spain's to take. Please refer to my cited article.

Hi,
What is your reasoning for the reversion of my edits about the territorial waters to the east of Gibraltar?
These are international through the ratified 1958 Convention on the Territorial Seas and Contiguous Zone, Article 3, which I cited as a source.
Do I need to get the DWG to sort this out or shall I revert this and we move on?
Kind regards.

It is an easily accessible map to depict the location of physical marker buoys on the water, which are not Crown Copyright. Hence why the document was not linked in my edit.

Thanks, there was an issue with somebody tampering on my account, so this is definitely one to reverse.
