| 65708498 | about 7 years ago | Apologies, didn't realized I had, I disconnected a few spots where the road was connected to buildings. Do you happen to know a spot it happened at, as I would certainly be glad to look back and make sure I learn from any mistakes :) |
| 55429146 | almost 8 years ago | Thanks Guido, sorry, still working out the touchpad on the new computer, and didn't realize it had done it. Done. Thanks for going through the work to tell people :-) |

| 49803698 | over 8 years ago | Likewise, glad we can try to help what little bit possible. |
| 46591006 | almost 9 years ago | Cheers :-) I still use Potlatch, so things like reversions are more challenging. Yeah, I know we've got a few places prepared with the new layouts using the construction details... and I've spent far too long looking at that PDF trying to work out exact details of it all. Hadn't realized you were from the area! There's quite a few other spots I've considered laying out the expected final version for as well (seems all of central Florida is under construction???). Didn't know there was really any benefit besides saving time later, good to know. |
| 46591006 | almost 9 years ago | Oye, made a bunch of changes yesterday, and of all the ones to falter on. I optedto copy the exit point to speed/ensure the new point had the same information, but forgot to delete the old. Reading through key:construction, construction:minor sounds more valid for the exit (and all of the interstate), though welcome your input. It's a major project rebuilding the interstate throughout Orlando and adding toll lanes, realigning exits, etc. But the interstate won't be closing (except for the rare nightly closure) or realigning in most spots. Not sure where the final exit ramp will be on this, but they've torn down most of the old one including bridges. With the express lanes also getting exits, it'll likely be a much different exit, but that's 2+ years away it appears. To make matters more complex, they are also expresswaying 414 in this area at the same time. If it's easy to get the old alignment of the exit back and mark it demolished, that's fine to do. I don't usually see very active involvement in this area (the exit has been changed for about 6 months, I-4 has been under construction for almost 2 years now), so I'm not terrified of someone else changing it back, though obviously the interstate nature of it brings greater widespread attention to the area. But I'm confident this current mapping is correct for eastbound I-4 in this area now, and was a significant enough change that it seemed important to do because it could throw any drivers using the old layout. I'll have to scout westbound's current layout, as it may have been altered a bit, and significantly impacted signal setup. But will take a look today when out there. Really appreciate the heads up my failed completion. I've done a few other interstate changes through the years, always nervous that I might actually affect a more widely used product, and disappointed I did this time. But VERY grateful for the catch so that it didn't remain that way! |
| 39057659 | over 9 years ago | Good to know :-) Though it seems the wetlands are at least proximate... we also seem to have a messy import of a church dataset with scattered nonexistent churches that seems more problematic. So what do you guys do to clean them up? If there's development over what used to be wetlands, I'll usually delete them and change them to what it currently has... but what about out in remote parts. The shapes don't seem to match what I'm seeing exactly, though may or may not be in woodsy appearing areas from satellite. Do you just leave those and focus on the more vital nearby areas? |
| 38869142 | over 9 years ago | Hi Hans, I certainly agree with you that there's heavy need for more complete\useful business names... been trying to update them a bit myself around Orlando, but it's certainly daunting.
In regards to the multiple buildings, I'm sorry, I shouldn't really say "mess". Just that when you zoom in, it displays the name in numerous places [on Open Street Maps standard map at least] (for each separate building), and so it might lead to confusion when visually looking at maps. Plus I'd think (once Nominatim processes the locations) it'd have multiple found results. I'd seen others changing it to single location instead of multiple building, and seen how that perhaps looked better (even while having definite shortcomings of not connecting the places), so I'd started doing it that way. I'd sort of think the address might best point to the main building as that's where you'd check-in. But then, that's still imperfect if you're delivering pizzas or something. But unless one has local knowledge, hard to map out the room numbers of separate buildings or such. Unfortunately I don't really know any more than you do about discussions on such. I came across https://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/29613/how-to-tag-a-business-with-multiple-buildings which shed some thoughts. Perhaps I should ask a question on the Tagging OSM list? I haven't followed Reddit, is it well followed? If so, it might be better than the obscure lists they have, but those are the only things I have read. Really am glad to see you working on that so much, it seems there's a bit of this and a bit of that with OSM, and it'd be nice to something more full and mostly complete come about. If everything is good with the licensing, perhaps I can even be of help a bit, take on a bit of the work load with perhaps some of the more obscure roadside motels or such. Regardless, thanks for the very friendly reply, and hopefully we can both come to a better understanding of works best for multi-building units and help others to so there is at least a little consistency and we're not just all taking our time changing them back and forth between the two methods! To God be any glory,

| 38869142 | over 9 years ago | Hi GoWestTravel, looks like you've made a lot of useful edits to our area, and just had a couple questions about them: The name changes... are you basing this upon a database from your work, searches, personal experience\surveying, are they semi\fully automated, or something else? Also wondered if you had more input into the choice of tagging multiple buildings of a hotel each with the name. Seems more reasonable to me, but then makes maps a mess. And while we don't tag to the editor, seems perhaps best to avoid a messy map. I haven't tried relations before for them, like are used with schools and some other places... do they perhaps offer something better? You seem, based upon your wide array of edits, to spend a lot of time of this, so perhaps you've come across the discussions better. Appreciate your feedback, thanks :-) |
| 38695001 | over 9 years ago | No worries at all! I've certainly made mistakes, and know computer troubles too :-) You're out here helping! Certainly nothing to be discouraged by, and thank you for responding and clearing up my confusion. I was rather hesitant to delete it thinking maybe I was doing something wrong :-) Keep on after the things that really matter,

| 38695001 | over 9 years ago | Hi DiGro, seems we're about the same mapping experience... bit confused by your highway addition here, but perhaps I don't know some keys about navigation-assistance? There's already the two sides of the divided highway drawn in. It doesn't look like a road down the middle to me... trees\median? Can you please help me to understand why you put the road down the middle? Thanks! |
| 38256687 | almost 10 years ago | Hiya 3yoda, I see you're one of the most active mappers around these parts, and some good stuff. However, I came across some of your recent edits, and hope you can give some clearer pointers on the standards\reasoning behind some of the deletes you've made, such as in this set? I get there are pedestrian routing and clutter issues with having separate sidewalks. Haven't been to Pointe Orlando in eons, and it looks the whole thing is walk-friendly from Bing, and so kind of unneeded to draw in sidewalks... but it would seem that the pathway along the service road south of the parking garage might be useful at least for pedestrian routing apps cutting across between IDrive and Universal Blvd. I've also seen main access roads through\around buildings such as the one you deleted around the Rosen Plaza pretty widely mapped. Definitely does seem they can be a bit cluttery, too... but I can also see why it might help a mapping program. (As such, if I came here blind, I'd perhaps add the road paths into and out of the parking garage so mapping could navigate into it easily).
And finally, I also get that parking lots themselves clutter the map a bit, though I haven't seen any consensus about excluding them. Though they'd certainly want something like access: customers. But I seek to get some more precedence on this, and what caused you to do this. Is it based on how it's rendered on a certain platform? Or just not a fan of overly-needless clutter?
Anyways, had nothing to do with these edits, just cautious after seeing them. I'm from south Orlando and still spend a lot of time in the area. And I want to make this the best I can.
Thanks for reading,

| 37767348 | almost 10 years ago | Hi samely... I'm newish at OSM, and seems you've got a lot more history than I, but I'm really confused by these changes. You gave a US Interstate a Japanese name and speed limit, and added a strange 1 tag. I'd look about reverting, but you seem to know what you're doing enough to fix\understand! Please do fix! |
