Changeset When Comment
132963347 over 1 year ago

Hi Mateusz, thank you for reaching out and flagging the spelling error. 'Horse=nou' should have been 'horse=no'. This has now been amended in OSM.

Additionally, we recognise that the changeset comment could be clearer, and this has been reflected in the lessons learned of the National Trust's Paths Project.

To clarify, we have been in regular contact with the OSM UK board from the outset of this project and presented at the AGM in London in 2019 in the hopes of gaining feedback on our paths mapping initiative. The OSM UK board have provided invaluable advice in niche mapping scenarios and reviewed our mapping schema. Additionally, we have had support from the OSM Data Working Group. However, no formal 'agreement' has taken place. Rather, the changeset comment referred only to their support for the project.

I hope this helps to clarify the original changeset comment.

Thanks.

Hi Andy,

Thank you for your comment. Having discussed this with the National Trust ranger team in the area, the team were unaware the Icknield way path ran this way which is why it wasn't tagged with horse access. I will go back in and put horse=permissive here now where the route goes through Dunstable Downs.

Unfortunately I couldn't tell you how the horse route crosses the Tring road further north.

Many thanks,
Jas

It was osm.org/way/501435865 that I believe is not a public bridleway. Looking at the PRoW overlay data and http://www.rowmaps.com/showmap.php?place=LU6%202GY&map=OSM&lat=51.865255&lon=0.537482&lonew=W the is no bridleway in this part of Dunstable Downs and so the cycleway should not be tagged as such with designated access tags.

Hi,

You filled in the foot and bicycle tags here as designated however this is not a designated public bridleway. Therefore the path/cycleway should have permissive tags here.

Best wishes,
Jas

Hi Bob,
We recognise that the best practise is to map what actually exists on the ground.

One section of informal path that was removed had some use as indicated from the Strava heatmaps but was not a recognised path on the ground by the ranger team at the time. This may be the section of informal path you are referring to which forks through woodland below the Flitch Way. Having discussed this with the team we understand that this is in fact on the ground and as such I will put this section back into OpenStreetMap. However it crosses sensitive ancient woodland and the team are discouraging access and therefore the tags will be amended to reflect this.

Regards,
Jas

With regards to the service road in Hatfield Forest, we only use the 'motor_vehicle=customer' tag if they are specifically behind a pay barrier. As in Hatfield Forest there isn't a physical pay barrier, but there is a car park you pay for we instead tag the service road as permissive.

The closed paths including West Ride between Leapers Lane and Beggars Hall will remain on the map because the ways are still physically visible on the ground. Instead of deleting them we change the access tags on these ways to =no and add a description tag with reasoning to a closure.

Jasmine

Hi Bob,

Thank you for your messages. The informal paths near the Flitch Way marked as informal paths I believe I changed the highway type to footway or path. This may have been why they were flagged as deleted. Any that may have been deleted I would have done so with the site rangers permission as it wasn't a recognised path or footway on the ground.

Hi Bernard,

Thank you for bringing that to my attention. From now onwards I will start to save smaller changesets. With regards to the duplicate ways, I believe I had a few errors with openstreetmap in my browser when making those edits. I tried to delete as many of the duplicates as I could when going back into it but must have missed those so thank you for deleting them.

Jasmine

Mistake made in the path being moved. The next changeset fixed this error

Hi Will,

Thanks for pointing that out, the customer tagging was a human error on my part and those tags have now been removed.

Thanks,
Jas
