A beautiful mapping drive

Posted by Interlope on 15 November 2008 in English.

Mapped The beginning of Flagstone Creek road and part of Silver Pinch Road (up to the unpaved section) on the outskirts of Toowoomba. I was having too much fun driving and looking at the incredible scenery to collect some of the road names - so I have Silver Pinch Road incorrectly intersecting directly with Flagstone Creek Road at the moment. It's a great trip if anyone wants to fix it... The roads follow mountain ridges so there are valley views both sides of the road.

Against all odds

Posted by Interlope on 30 July 2008 in English.

After a forced "mapping holiday" I have finally had a chance to map data I've collected for scattered residential streets in Toowoomba. A serious fault at our electrical meter, and the sluggish pace of my 7 year old computer after an OS upgrade have conspired to make mapping very difficult for the past few weeks.

I've been trying some new GPS tracking software - OSMtracker. It looks promising feature-wise, but somehow the tracks seem less accurate than I was getting with GPSVP.

How easily an addiction can start

Posted by Interlope on 15 July 2008 in English.

I discovered OSM because my bicycle speedometer got a flat battery.

Instead of buying a new battery, I thought I would try to download some kind of GPS speedometer/trip computer for my new GPS-enabled PDA. Instead I discovered GPS tracking software and OSM. Since then I have been mapping every street I can find between my home and place of work, plus anywhere else I happen to roam. Already my wife fears she will become an OSM widow.
