Hello GabiruX_,

I came across your recent changesets https://osmcha.org/changesets/184091039 and https://osmcha.org/changesets/184033097 and noticed several highway classification changes in this area that may not fully align with OSM highway classification guidelines.
The following segments were upgraded from service to motorway:
way/216124523
way/216126210

Based on the OpenStreetMap wiki definition of highway=motorway, these segments do not appear to meet the criteria, as they do not function as controlled access, high capacity inter city routes
 highway=motorway

The following segments were upgraded from trunk to motorway:
 way/1316826069 to way/998236285
This section appears to align more closely with trunk classification, as it includes direct service road connections, whereas motorways typically require controlled access via designated entry and exit ramps.

The roads were also upgraded from tertiary to trunk:
way/308478314 to way/734694924 According to the OpenStreetMap wiki definition of highway=trunk, trunk roads are major routes between cities and regions highway=trunk in this case the road doesn’t quite qualify to be a trunk road

Other road segments were upgraded from primary to trunk:
way/696281422
way/552350922
These edits upgrade roads to trunk classification but based on the surrounding network the segments do not clearly function as major intercity through-routes typically associated with trunk highways: highway=trunk

The following segments were upgraded from highway=residential to highway=trunk: way/734694924
way/1529353008
However, a residential road does not meet the highway=trunk criteria on the OpenStreetMap wiki, as trunks are intended for major highcapacity through routes rather than local access streets
I also noticed the addition of the ref=BR-493 tag. BR-493 is an existing federal highway route in Rio de Janeiro and is already mapped in OSM at relation/4002780

I was wondering if you might be able to share the reasoning or any local knowledge or sources that informed these classification changes, and if you’re open to it, I’d be happy to help review the area and assist with adjusting any classifications where appropriate.

Best regards,
Haritron

Hello Ctrl+ShiftF5,

I noticed several roads (Example: way/1175230926 to way/293777281, way/564540762, way/580986419 to way/1173607520), were recently upgraded to primary classification. Based on the OSM Wiki definition of highway=primary (highway=primary), these roads typically function as major through-routes connecting larger population centers or forming part of a broader network. From my review of the area, these roads appear to carry relatively low traffic volumes and do not seem to serve as connections to major populated destinations.

There are also a few other examples of over classified secondaries in the area that may be worth reviewing. For example way/1302162303 and way/1527698850 seem more appropriate as residential as they appear to primarily provide access to local housing (highway=*).

In addition, some geometry changes suggest a continuous bidirectional road may have been split into separate segments (way/1527345368). Based on Bing and Esri aerial imagery, this appears to be a single undivided road, and the current structure may introduce a routing break near way/1527345369.

I was wondering if you might have local knowledge, official road classifications, or other resources that informed these edits. Otherwise, would you be open to me reviewing and updating the classifications and geometry in the area to better reflect the current road network and align with OSM tagging guidelines?

Best regards,
Haritron

Hello kaxtillo,

I noticed way/1495183569 was recently updated from construction to motorway. Based on current available imagery, it is not fully clear whether the road is complete or operational at this stage. In addition, the road does not appear to fully align with the typical characteristics associated with a motorway, as the OSM Wiki generally defines highway=motorway as a fully operational, controlled-access road (highway=motorway).

If the road is accessible but still under development, would you be in support of temporarily classifying it as highway=unclassified with construction=trunk, since it will ultimately become part of Route 25? This approach may better reflect the current on-the-ground situation while still indicating the planned future classification.

Best Regards,

Haritron
