On this third week of our internship, it made me think about the career path that I’ll be taking. Being a first student that is currently taking the course bachelor of science in information technology, I saw how important it is to take my course seriously. Being under this internship made me see a different side of the tech-world. What struck me the most while thinking about my career path is the way how I’m doing things now will make a huge difference in the future.

Technical skills have been thought to us during this internship program. This skills can be used to create a vast variety of information. What makes this internship interesting is that the more we know, the more we don’t know. Learning about relations made me think of how important each tag is used. The more we map, the more we encounter new tags.

Today, leaflet have been introduced to us. Based on what I’ve understood leaflet can be used to show maps on a website or apps. We were tasked to make a fairly basic map after a couple of examples. To the best of my ability I was only able to make the most basic one. I thought of creating a mobile app after doing this, though my skills are lacking. I am thankful since I got to learn how to use leaflet.

Intern's Workplace

Posted by HXD70 on 17 May 2019 in English.

Being part of the Internship Program got me to experience how it is to feel in a workplace. Their mindset when it comes to accomplishing tasks, being serious on their work and how they work, sharing and learning from the experiences of your colleagues, this are just some of the things that I have experienced in this internship.

Being an effective mapper doesn’t just depend on your skill, it also depends on how you cooperate with your colleagues. There are a lot things that I still need to know. Working with others help me understand more about mapping. Not everyone experiences the same thing, tasks can be done in many various ways. The workflow of each person may vary. Being in such an environment, I get to become a better version of myself. Everyone helps each other by sharing their strategies and how things can be done properly. I look forward for the days that are about to come.

1st Summer Internship

Posted by HXD70 on 10 May 2019 in English.

Being part of the CWTS++ program I have been given an opportunity to join the Summer Internship. I am pleased to be here since this is new to me. After this past few days, I have learned about some new techniques when it comes to mapping and how to interpret the tags that I use.

Back then, my understanding to tagging roads were fairly basic since I interpret them at a very literal level. I did not look at the perspective of those who will be using the map that I’m working on and those people who live in that area. By being able to see and understand that, I saw how important it is to properly choose the tags that I’ll be using. Though I still make mistakes, I value what I learn from those mistakes and use them as stepping stones to further increase my knowledge when it comes to tagging. Through the help of my instructors and co-workers, I am able to do much better now than before.

What drives me to map the areas of my country is that I know that it will be a big help to those that need this information especially when it comes to emergency situations. Me and my co-workers are driven by helping those who need help in anyway possible and through mapping, we are able to make it happen. It’s like working behind the stage, what we do is very important and it makes a big impact on what is happening on the big picture.

Adventure Time on CWTS++

Posted by HXD70 on 24 October 2018 in English.

The edits I’ve made in my neighborhood are made possible through the use of josm, mapillary, and a field paper. Gathering information, such as house numbers are quite challenging since some are not easily seen while roaming around the street. Capturing and uploading street level imagery, is easier said than done since it takes more time to do this, rather than mapping. I’ve added buildings since there are still some unmapped buildings.

For me, the CWTS++ program is an adventure. I got to interact with other people, roam the streets in my neighborhood, and learn new set of skills. It isn’t easy to go on an adventure. Just like any other adventure, transitioning from one thing to another isn’t always easy. From using I.D. to JOSM, at first I had a hard time using it, to be honest. But as time got by, I got used to it and eventually I saw that it was better than using I.D. since it made editing much easier. What I liked the most during this program is capturing street level imagery since this is where I personally got to have an adventure. Roaming the streets and seeing my neighborhood made me want to explore more about it. Lastly, an adventure wouldn’t be made possible without a guide. Sir Erwin Olario taught us what we needed to know about mapping and showed us the importance of helping our community. Thank you Sir Erwin!

New Feature Discoverd

While roaming around the streets in Sta Ana I got to a place I haven’t been. As I go along the path and finally reached the end. I found myself near our house. This is the first time that I have discovered an alternative route that lets me reach my house. As I continue to roam around that area, I have discovered new places that I haven’t been. Mainly all of the paths end to a residential place.
