when removing the railway=abandoned tag, please use railway=razed. razed:railway=rail is a good ADDITIONAL tag that indicated the razed line was not a subway/light rail/tram/narrow gauge line, etc.

How about you can make it anything other than route=railway? The reason I changed it was the route was rendering as a railway ON TOP OF the existing track information in OpenRailwayMap and hiding the electrification data/coloring
