PROW 109072 still exists but access to the path leading to A689 bypass does not exist. Access to the field is by turning right at this point following the path until you reach access to the field on the left

Find this location using the site and there is no path to be found as provided until this edit

Access to the footpath which corresponds to PROW 109072 in Engine Lonning area no longer available. A big mound of dirt can be found with access blocked.
This corresponds with this changeset (167934295) as it's in the same field and likely belongs to the same owner. Further to this, the same signage prohibiting access can be found in this area as it can further along (167934295) where the removal of the other footpath has occurred.

Checking Cumberland Highway IAMS site confirms no path here, the closest being existing PROW 109071 running along to A689 bypass in one direction, Engine Lonning the other.

Historically, there appeared to be two access points to Engine Lonning coming from the west with this path being one of those access points. Today there appears to exist only one closest to the lake

Using Cumberland Highway IAMS website confirms no footpath here.
Signs are marked upon entrance to the path stating there is no footpath here.

Discussions on Facebook confirm local concerns over legitimacy of the footpath being closed dated back to 2021 (ref: https://www.facebook.com/spottedcarlislenew/posts/the-footpath-cycle-path-leading-from-burgh-road-industrial-towards-the-river-ede/1829907340499487/).
Archived link for Facebook post (ref: https://archive.is/wLYfU).

A document concerning proposed modifications and inclusion of the footpath can be found here (ref: https://www.carlisle.gov.uk/Portals/0/Documents/PDF/PF10971%20Burgh%20Road.pdf?ver=hh9E90KPF_jcGcHr8Oh8Bg%3d%3d) however no correspondence can be found and seemingly no updates made to the public right of way/footpath map found here (ref: https://cumberland.highway-iams.uk/Live/PBLC/PIP/?cg=networks)

Here are the references as provided above:
https://stanwix-rural.parish.uk/planning-applications/ (as of 22/06/25 Houghton House Farm appears in the recent planning applications page). Here is another confirmation that may remain more static: https://planning.org.uk/app/81/_CARLI_DCAPR_85895

Using Cumberland Council Highways map the diversion is confirmed and the PROW code for this is 132015 (ref: https://cumberland.highway-iams.uk/Live/PBLC/PIP/?cg=networks - use 'Houghton House Farm' in the address bar)
