I think fords can technically be located anywhere, even in a big city, as the Wikipedia article you mentioned defines it as a shallow place where a river/stream may be crossed. The OSM Wiki also doesn’t say it can't be used in urban areas ford=yes. However, in this case I do agree that there is not enough information here to justify adding this tag - I can remove it, thank you for the feedback.
