Thanks Brendan, so where specifically did you get this name? Alex Privalov posted a photo to Peakery when he ascended multiple peaks associated with Bluerock Mountain… the name he proffered was “Peak 2701” (I’m confirming with him, but it was likely because “Peak 2700” was already taken in that database).

David Jones’s guidebook shows it as “Unnamed” (I’m going to also check with him for any additional details that he had from Allan Schierman’s FA in July 1988)… If Allan had called the pile of rocks something, I’m sure that David would have referenced that in his guidebook based on my past discussions with him.

I will check with Robin Tivy from bivouac, but his database only references the peak as “GI53” - which means that it is unnamed.

I cannot find any references on the Internet of a “Mount Burnrock”.

You indicate that the name is used by those who have seen and/or climbed the mountain, but I cannot find any indication that people have referenced it in such a way (though many people don’t post stuff online of course).

If I can’t find anything online, and the team this weekend does get to the summit, I will update OSM with whatever they put in the summit register as the name, elevation, and precise location of the summit.

The Rockies South reference of “Unnamed 2710m” (GR523-138), via East Ridge (route 36) looks unnamed to me, so I’m wondering how it got the name “Mount Burnrock” in OSM as that doesn’t seem to be a transcription from the Jones’ guidebooks (which is what I believe you indicated you had been doing). Does the summit cairn have “Mount Bluerock” in it with elevation 2710 metres?

In Rockies South, this peak is only referred to as “East Ridge” marked as route 36. The convention for peak naming would be that “Mount” is followed by a surname that the mountain is named after. This name of “Mount Burnrock” is not official, so should be more properly named “Burnrock Peak”, and I will be shooting for its summit this weekend. I will rename the summit in OSM to more properly follow peak naming conventions. I do think that not naming it “East Ridge” is appropriate, and “Mount Burns East Ridge” already is used as well.

Thanks for replying so quickly Brendan, correcting my understanding. My apologies!

The labels on this track are wrong. “Porcupine Tower” is the pinnacle beside the currently marked “Porcupine Ridge”, and the high point on this ridge before ascending higher to “Crown West”, would be considered “Porcupine Ridge”… the current place marked as “Porcupine Tower”.

Providing the incorrect information is causing confusion, because when someone says they climbed “Porcupine Tower”, and the pictures show this benign ridge compared to the real Porcupine Tower, the viewing person says WTF??
