I also introduced a slightly different naming approach for North-South Route Stage 1 by adding the stage number and endpoints to the relation names (e.g. Basel Old Town and Basel - Aarau). This is intended as a proposal to improve human readability while keeping the existing stage structure and the "from", "to" and "stage" tags. If the local mapping community prefers the shorter naming convention currently used elsewhere, it can of course be adjusted.

The North-South route now uses the combined 3;EV5 ref format on all stages except Stage 1.1, following the existing EV15/Rhine Route approach.

The signage (even if outdated and inconsistent) is present between Rheinhausen and Rußheim.

That was an oversight on my side when I was writing my response.

As of November 19, 2025, when I last did a ground survey there on bicycle, I found though that a few subtle changes did occur northeast of Philippsburg: the old Veloroute Rhein plates were recently removed from the signage where the route overlaps with both the Seen-Tour and the Vogelpark / Tierpark Tour.

It is possible that, given the local Seen-Tour and the Vogelpark / Tierpark Tour cycle routes are currently being signed, the Rheinhausen - Karlsruhe stretch could soon also receive modern signage aligned with the FGSV standards, and with EuroVelo plates.

I'm sorry for the late reply - I was very busy the last two weeks and couldn't follow up during that time.

Regarding your question: between Dettenheim and Karlsruhe there are currently no signs forming a followable route. Only some leftovers of the outdated Veloroute Rhein signage remain which don't meet the current FGSV standards.
I mistakenly thought unsigned sections could be mapped since the section between Dettenheim and Rheinhausen was already in OSM, but now I understand that route sections should only be added when corresponding signage exists.
For consistency, I would support removing the Dettenheim - Rheinhausen section as well.

I did ground surveys in November and the beginning of December this year and can confirm that the EuroVelo 15 Rheinhausen - Karlsruhe stretch is not signed yet. Until signage is eventually in place, I'll hold off any further changes to this section.

Being still fairly new to OpenStreetMap, I overshot when trying to remodel the Basel - Karlsruhe stage of EuroVelo 15. Thank you for pointing me to the established practice with superroutes and node networks. I'll take time to get familiar with relation editing and switch to JOSM for large relation edits once I've gained more experience.

I was confused because most EuroVelo stages are mapped as continuous relations and show up clearly on CyclOSM and Cycle Map. The Basel - Karlsruhe stage felt like an outlier, and I thought aligning it with the other stages would improve consistency for map users. I now understand that the cycling network in Baden-Württemberg uses now a node-based mapping approach, which would explain the difference.

I also made some local edits in Karlsruhe-Daxlanden, around the Waidweg tram stop area, based on recent ground surveys. The Waidweg tram stop was rebuilt and a few changes to the paths around it occurred which I wanted to reflect.
