Hi MxxCon, thanks for asking about this. Some external websites utilize OSM for fitness activity tracking in order to show streets that have been "completed" by running down them. It works by tracking nodes that were crossed, however straight road segments are sometimes incorrectly reported as complete when only the intersection nodes are crossed. For example, running all north-south streets in Hoboken will accidentally report many East-West streets as complete since they share the same intersection nodes. I try to help fix this when I see it by placing one mid point node between intersections so that the roads are not complete until the mid point node is also crossed. If this violates OSM policies, then the revisions can be reversed, but this is the rationale behind these edits.
