Yes - CCC maintain the byways/roads now. It was parishes till 1894, then District Councils till 1929, then County Councils!. All the best.

Wouldn't fancy it even in a 4WD today - it's sort of hollowed out, overgrown from the sides, and hasn't really been maintained for many years. But, yes, I suspect you could just about get one of the narrower 4WD vehicles up. Could do with a Grade 6 (or 7) really. It's an interesting lane, somewhere I have a copy of a Quarter-Sessions Ruling from 1820 or sometime similar. Because the parish boundary runs up the middle of the road, no-one knew which parish was meant to maintain it. The Judge decided that one parish should maintain the bottom half, and the other parish the top half - and that a 'certain stone' would be placed at the point where this changed. That stone is still there today - as a triangular boundary stone. At the top end of the road there is a stone carved direction sign to Grange - but difficult to see nowadays.

Gosh, it's all more complicated than I thought! Thanks ever so much for the training. I'll edit the cycle routes to show some as cycle paths that also have walkers (the Walney to Wear route), and some as foot paths that also allow cyclists (like Clare House Lane and other connections) to reflect what's on the ground and happens.

How do you record a 'Restricted Byway'?

There's a legal right of way over the bridge onto the promenade (public footpath). However, they have taken the bridge away - so there's no physical way to walk over the railway at the moment. The same is true of the Bailey Lane level crossing which has been locked closed for about three years now. But I didn't know how to show this except with another barrier point?

Oh - okay. Bit odd really, as I don't think there is a cycleway anywhere in Britain where foot access isn't also part of the cycleway. Cycle lanes on the road may not take walkers (but they aren't cycleways) - but where else would this be the case?

I'll go back and edit them all. However, I'm a bit puzzled by the question 'All - yes/no, etc?' What does 'all' mean in the context of a cycleway. For instance, on the prom its open to walkers and cyclists, but not horses - so do I click 'no' for all, and then 'yes' for the above?

As to the name of the bus stop - what confused me is that when looking at the street map online it says 'Grange Railway Station', when actually it's a bus stop - the station is on the railway. So, it looked from a distance that the railway station was duplicated. So, I take your point, but that was where I was coming from.
