Long ago, when the F-14 was retired, and it made it's final flights. They had an event at Republic Airport (FRG). As I'm sure you know, it was built right here on Long Island by Grumman, thus the 'farewell' event at FRG. I snuck onto the premises and was in a small abandoned parking lot at the end of the runway. It took off in my direction, and when overhead went near vertical and hit the afterburners. I was so close, I could feel the heat and swear I could smell the fumes! Loved it, memory sticks with me all these years later lol.
