Hi there,

Welcome to the OpenStreetMap community, and thank you for your contribution! It's great to see new mappers helping improve the map.

Just a quick tip for future edits—when naming streets, it's best to use the full name instead of abbreviations (e.g., "Drive" instead of "Dr.") to maintain consistency with OSM conventions. You can find more details about this guideline here: osm.wiki/Names#Abbreviation_(do_not).

Keep up the great work, and happy mapping!

Hey there, I'm checking out the school grounds single node tags in North Dakota and found that most of these aren't actually schools nearby and just farmland (i.e. Strasburg School Number 4). Just trying to understand this changeset's import.

I created a MapRoulette challenge for myself to verify and merge each point if they already exist. All of the points have phone number data so even if it is a duplicate of a name, it is still going to be merged and thus add additional metadata regardless. I did not want to add the amenity tag before looking at each point to ensure the amenity is not closed anymore. I created a buffer in QGIS before adding the points to rid of most duplicates, but obviously it wasn't large enough for all offsets. The data is opensource from IMLS and the lat./long. coordinates they provide aren't perfect, but better than nothing.
An import is the first step to bridging the gaps, so please don't be too critical, as I am actively working on fixing the state libraries in my MapRoulette Challenge!

Hey there, this data is has been granted public access by the government. Their website explicitly states "As part of the federal Open Data Policy, we have made our data available in open, machine-readable formats to help you conduct research, develop web and mobile applications, design data visualizations, and more" For your reference, please see https://www.imls.gov/about-us/open-government

Hi there,
It seems like the issue was that there was a single building footprint for several stores. I went ahead and added more details, so that each store now has its corresponding building footprint. No previous information was deleted, just improved the detail :)

You're welcome! Almost all addresses in Stafford County are now merged with their respective buildings (if one exists), thanks to VGIN and Esri OpenData. :) Glad to hear the updates are helpful!

Hey there,
A lot of residential houses you uploaded have names (i.e. Northcott House). Where did you find this information? These aren't the names of the current residents. Is this historic information or archive you can site or provide from which this data was pulled from?

Best,
Arianna

Hi there, you're correct. I meant to only upgrade marking=zebra as that is now deprecated, not add uncontrolled tag to crossing.
