Yes, there are places where enthusiastic mappers have been eager to map anything possible to OSM. And there is not any centralized checking system that someone would always be there to correct things. That is one downside to this kind of open community managed service. Anyone can become a mapper and sometimes new mappers can do quite significant damage to the map data. It is other community users that have to fix them.
I just happened to notice the driveways you had drawn because I live in that area and I check the OSM from time to time if there are any updates to the area close to my home. And to be clear, your updates were not a big mess or error. That's just something we don't usually do in Finland. Other countries may have different kinds of guidelines for OSM mapping.

If a house is located right beside the public road and there is no actual driveway but the front yard, that short strip of driveway on the map does not give any useful information. Only thing it does is make the map more cluttered. For example if you arrive in such location and address, you can clearly see where you can enter the property.
On the other hand if the house is located further away from the address road and it's not necessarily clear how to enter the property, then it is useful to draw the driveway. In Finland we might have driveways or access roads to a property that might be even hundreds of meters long. Then it is endeed useful to draw those roads to the map. But not those short ones for properties located right beside the address road.
I'm also pretty sure the is a somewhat clear concensus on this matter in Finnish OSM mapping community. It is close the principal used in the official Finnish maps from Maanmittauslaitos.

Moi! Kyllä ovat polkuja. Kyseiset pellot ovat olleet vuodesta toiseen kesannolla ja ihmiset kulkevat näitä pitkin ulkoillessaan. Pysyvät kulkukelpoisina usein myös talvella. Erityisesti polku Marjokorventieltä Puimuritielle on aktiivisessa käytössä. Kuljin eilen itsekin koirien kanssa lenkillä näitä polkuja pitkin.
